maybe some sort of heavily textured paint that hides uneven surfaces could be easiest for good results for the metal rails.
and for touch-ups i guess too
the prep for that yoy! i dont envy that!

Rails are not fucked up...they can just be painted over with little prep...I'm a master painter btw...
