Sorry for bringing it up again but I still cant get it in normal (non-defrag) gameplay. In defrag, I get it all the time, and even overjump the bridge if I am not careful. The settings I play with on lan:
com_maxfps 125
sv_fps 30
g_synchronousclients 0
pmove_fixed 0.
I use sv_fps 30 because it's the quakecon official settings. I usually get 570-590 ups at the end of the second jump, but I can make it at 570 only when I do it perfectly, as in, when I'm moving straight towards the ledge.
Till recently I thought that my own incompetence was the reason for inconsistency. However, in a recent demo from cyberfight.org, I saw someone make the jump with 542ups...
I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me the cvars that major LAN tourneys use, because I've been attempting the jump and getting killed too many times of late :p

I just did. You had ~ 550 ups at the end of your second jump. I know how to make the jump alright, but I make it only once out of 3 tries (when I get enough speed). However, I am pretty certain that I cannot make it with 550 ups on LAN with the settings I mentioned previously.

There must be something wrong in my config, could you please post/mail me the server config that you were using? My email is railrulez at gmail dot com.

All you need in /com_maxfps 125. The problem lies not in your config but in your jumping. The Pros take the same falling damage. If you go off the RG ledge onto the 2nd level w/o jumping you won't take any damage. There is however one 'bug' near the YA jumppad that allows you to fall from YA and take no damage and be silent.

You need pmove_fixed 1 OR fps 140 on LAN/offline. Guess you didn't notice the beggining of the thread. :p

You don't NEED either of them, but it makes it a bit easier. I've read the entire thread, thank you :p

Oh that's news, and a big relief too :icon25:... I can do it almost everytime with pmove_fixed 1. One more doubt on the same topic... the value of pmove_fixed is different for LAN and internet play, right? So wont people who play both regularly have trouble doing the same trick with such different settings... if I couldnt do the bridge-rail jump consistently, I'd have to rethink my strategy for the whole map as such...

Yes, that's exactly what I was talking about... it's easier to get ~550 ups in two jumps than 590-600. I'm still not clear about what I asked though... are these 'easier' settings used in LAN tournaments?

No. pmove_fixed 0 and com_maxfps 125 are the defaults.

Grab the map cos1_beta7b and hit the strafe pads.. if your having issues with strafing, grab the defrag mod and turn on the camping gaz hud..

Sure thing, but 9/10 times you won't make it offline without one of those settings... had to learn the hard way. :clownboat:

Are you talking about the jump immediately after coming out of the teleporter?

I would, but I can't be arsed to load up quake. The second you come out of the teleport, don't turn your view at all(important), just jump and hold left or right strafe key. Easy as pie.

also important to tap jump - if you hold down jump it doesn't work (unless you also hold crouch at same time).
