Got a free net gear R8000. Can make a NAS with a USB drive but would rather just use a real NAS.

Check out Synology they make a great NAS with a whole suite of mobile apps.

To be fair the cloud is the better option for stuff you really don't want to lose. I run a home NAS with lots of redundancy (3x copies of photos, for example) and have photos etc synced up to my own remote server via Seafile (free).

I'm considering ditching that set-up for something like Crashplan though linked straight off my NAS as it seems like the easiest way.

Point is to have all the things you access regularly on you local NAS and then Synology has utilities to back up the most important things to a cheaper online backup like Amazon Glacier which just charges per GB's transfer fee and it's literally pennies when it just sits there.

It's fucking a public cloud. It's self explanatory... As usual ur a pretentious dipshitted nerd. For some weird reason not only do u want a nas...u also want a personal cloud to go along with it. When U can just save the hassle and use Google or Dropbox. But I guess doing retarded shit like this file that void u have in ur life... Whatever... But u should just grow up...
