Yeah the image I posted above was originally posted in response to the New York Daily's tweet with their cover page.MKJ wrote:http://img-9gag-fun.9cache.com/photo/anBLv3L_700b.jpg
Now there's lots of butthurt Christians who complain that the New York Daily doesn't respect the American values.

I never said you had to be an expert to have an opinion. Anyone can have an uneducated opinion. You popped off saying the average citizen shouldn't own an "assault" rifle. But yet you're not really sure what one is. You had to look it up. Then when questioned further you were still unable to provide further clarification as to what the general term "assault rifle" meant to you.Transient wrote:I love how you focus on the first part of my post and completely ignore the second part. Again. And don't try to come off as helpful by making it sound like you're getting me to learn something new about guns.YourGrandpa wrote:Did you even have a response until you looked it up?
In general? What's your definition of "in general"? How many round magazine is "large"? What ROF is "rapid"? What is a "combat" configuration?
At least I'm causing you to do some research on your ramblings.
Keep learning.
Again, I'm for developing a more stringent vetting process for people who want to own semi-automatic, mag fed firearms. But when you scream blanket statements like "BAN ASSAULT RIFLES", you're not being realistic. Banning firearms isn't the answer anyway. Better regulating their distribution will yield the desired results with the average citizen. Because crazy people/extremists will always find a way to kill lots of people no matter what (i.e. box cutters and airplanes).

Again, you don't have to be an expert to have an opinion. But you should have some type of education/accurate knowledge of a topic if you are going to argue for changing a nations constitutional rights. No?Ryoki wrote:Again with the 'if you're not an expert your opinion is worthless' argument? Weak dude
Honest question; as a gunowner, are you increasibly worried Obama is going to take your 30 guns away from you with all these mass shootings?
Increasibly or increasingly? As an American I'm not worried about anyone "taking" anything I personally posses, no matter who is the president. Because nobody is signing up to go door to door and take anything from a fellow American.
Re: Yet another fucking mass shooting in America; 14 dead so far
Feedback the fascist really wants this to be about Islamic terrorism or religion... Looks more likely that the ppl who got shot up were shit talking the Muslim... Calling him a terrorist and making fun of his religion. He got pissed and left and decided to give them some terror....
Common mass shooting theme.... Shooter retaliates again dipshit bullies...

Sure sounds like you told Transient that his opinion was no good due to the clip vs magazine thing but whatever.YourGrandpa wrote:Again, you don't have to be an expert to have an opinion. And i'll rephrase then; as a gunowner, are you increasingly worried legislation might be passed that obligates you to dispose of your firearms due to all these mass shootings?

I said no such thing. But that doesn't serve your argument, does it? I said his lack of knowledge brought the credibility of his opinion into question. Heaven forbid someone so passionate about something be informed.
BTW, gun owner is two words? And no, I'm not worried.

Now look here gramps, i haven't slept properly for about a week and a half, my fucking house is fucking killing me by not being finished yet and i'm doing something like two and a half jobs at the moment due to a sick coworker. So i'd appreciate it very much if you'd be so kind as to ignore any spelling mistakes i make. Think of it this way; this isn't my first language & it's a goddamn wonderful thing that we're even able to communicate at all - and it's all thanks to me, your Dutch is just plain awful.
Perhaps now you can tell me why you're not worried. Is it because you're convinced no such legislation will ever be passed? Or that you'd be fine with it, as a law abiding citizen?
Again, i'm actually curious here and am not really trying to get a rise out of you or something. The mindset of the American gun owner is completely alien to us Euro's, you must have noticed that before.

I appreciate the efforts you are putting into participating in this conversation...
I'm not worried because I am a law abiding citizen and pretty certain that no retroactive legislation will ever be passed. Furthermore, I am not the staunch 2nd amendment gun nut that some might paint me to be. But I also don't think that trying to pass legislation "banning" any gun is the answer. Especially with how many "gun nuts" there are in America. The only feasible approach is to work on legislation that would help prevent the wrong people from getting these guns to begin with.
I understand the vast difference between most Euros and Americans when it comes to gun control. We are culturally different which doesn't equate to either being wrong or right. That's why it's so hard to have discussion because we are coming at it from two completely different mindsets. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. I'm only trying to explain my point of view.
Re: Yet another fucking mass shooting in America; 14 dead so far
Blaming these mass shootings on guns or lack of gun control is just plain retarded... Time to grow up chumps...

The solution to all world problems, "Grow up chumps".
Re: Yet another fucking mass shooting in America; 14 dead so far
Isn't this is exactly what people (including most people here) who want gun ownership reform have been saying since the very beginning... not sure tho. Canada, Europe and most other countries don't ban guns, just ban crazy people from owning guns, and restrictions on certain types of gun types.YourGrandpa wrote:But I also don't think that trying to pass legislation "banning" any gun is the answer... So I don't understand what this whole argument that we have every time there is a mass shooting is all about. Seems like we're all on the same page and just arguing about how many bullets in a clip/magazine seems like a matter of semantics.

If we all agree, then why is the knee jerk statement BAN guns? Also setting limits on mag capacity is as much a matter of semantics as setting speed limits. When you're suggesting we make laws/pass legislation for EVERYONE, everything deserves consideration. IJS.

Re: Yet another fucking mass shooting in America; 14 dead so far
Well, we passed an out-right ban on handguns here in the UK back in 1997 (Wiki article on UK gun politics). That was following the Dunblane Massacre. And sure, we've had the Cumbria Shootings incident since, but otherwise, the ban seems to have been pretty effective.
Edit: That was in response to obsidian.
Edit 2: Of course, I understand that logistically-speaking, exercising such a ban in the States would be an order of magnitude more complicated.

But the US isn't the UK. People here are of a different mindset, it's a much bigger country and there are A LOT more guns.

hence the argument,'take away the guns'YourGrandpa wrote:... there are A LOT more guns.

Starting with legislation that restricts gun ownership.

An argument that has ZERO chance of coming to fruition in the US. So keep making it. Sounds reasonable.PrMink wrote:hence the argument,'take away the guns'YourGrandpa wrote:... there are A LOT more guns.![]()

Re: Yet another fucking mass shooting in America; 14 dead so far
Do y'all believe that the amount of guns in the United States could deter an invasion from another country? Seeing as the United States potentialy has the largest militia in the world...
Re: Yet another fucking mass shooting in America; 14 dead so far
There is a rumoured quote by Yamamoto about not invading the US because there will be a gun behind every blade of grass, but it's likely to be bullshit. There was way bigger reasons for them not to invade the US.
