I'll be fine. The hardest part was saying goodbye earlier today at the house, not when we went to the vet's office. Actually my dad took it harder than I did. He cried like a baby (which only made it harder for me). I'm starting to think maybe it was a good idea to do it when my mom was out of town.

BTW, thanks to all you guys for lending me support and sharing stories. Even though I know Jake's not the only dog in the world to be euthanized, it helps to hear about other people's experiences in the same situation.

Sorry to hear it trans. It's hard, especially when it's a dog you practically grew up with.

The best dog I ever had was named Jake - Black Lab and Weimaraner mix (he looked like a short-haired chocolate lab with golden eyes). I spent my whole childhood with that dog and I missed him for months after we put him down. :(

This is so sad :/ Sounds like he had it well before he got sick though :)

Will you be getting a new dog or another animal?

well shit :(

I've had a dog who had to be put to sleep four months ago due to an illness, and she was also suffering from arthritis...

She would've turned 18 this year :tear:

BTW goof is a doofus

It's more like 30 seconds though. I felt him stop struggling and just let go. I miss him and doubt I will ever get a replacement.
Same here. My golden retriever Stormy had cancer. There really wasn't anything they could do, and we kept her as long as we could. By the end she wouldn't even eat real meals we were cooking for her, could hardly walk.

I'm glad I held her as they put her down. You really do feel closure that way. And I know it wasn't painful. She just closed her eyes, and a few seconds later the vet's assistant who had a stethoscope on her said it was over. It was just good that she wasn't in pain any more.

And it's a good way to go, if I have to die I'd be glad to do it that way.

We had her cremated, but still have her ashes. We were moving soon after, and it didn't really feel right to spread her ashes at the house we were leaving, and haven't done anything with them since. :(

I've wanted to get a cat for a few years now, but my father insists he's not getting another pet after Jake. Before that, quite a few years ago, he said "One pet at a time," so probably not. But this was before he got really attached to Jake, so I'm not sure.

I know I'll be getting a cat when I move out, at any rate.
