Personally I cant wait for Q4, but then again its just another (hopefully fantastic) FPS for me to fork out hard earned cash for. BUT!, the multiplayer should win it for me though.
Something which has just got me thinking, If they done a brilliant job of making the last 2 Jedi Knight games with the Q3 engine. How would they fare if they do a new one with the D3 engine?

The jedi knight games were a mixed bag... They were good, but they shouldn't of been. Ravens artists are very weak at times, if you look at their aart assets they are all really ,really boring, flat, cartoon style textures.
HOWEVER.
They have fantastic modelers there. Which means local map creation should be great.
SO.
If you think about it, Doom 3 needs good flat diffuse textures, and good local maps, so I reckon that Raven will do us proud with it this time. I mean, even though the marines dont look like Quake 2 marines design wise, the armor really looks fantastic.
The only gripe i have is that they STILL cant make decent heads, everybody in Q4 looks retarded.

I bet every Q2 player was saying stuff like this when Q3 was first previewed. That's why there are Q2 players that stuck with Q2 and never took an interest in Q3.
Likewise, there will be Q3 players that won't make the move to Q4, and will just stick with Q3. But people that never played Q3 won't be making any comparisons, they just see a brand new, and to them, original MP shooter. In the same way Q3 was original to me, albeit I played the Q2 single player but not MP. So I don't even remember much about Q2. So in theory, Q3 to Q4 will be just the same scenario as Q2 to Q3. See if you can count how many times I said 'Q3' in this post.

Wrong again DumB. I was a hardcore Q2'er and it was a mixed bag of opinions but most of us LOVED Q3 and couldn't wait for it to come out. I was in line like a total fucking lifeless nerd the day it was realeased with hundreds of other nerds.

Time will tell. It's fair to say that a lot of us are spoilt by awesome gameplay, ie, Q3. I also think that any excitement about Q4 has been somewhat lost because of the disappointment of D3, and let's face it, we're all comparing it to that. Had there been no D3 I'd bet we'd be looking at these screenies and ingame vids with much more interest.
edit: D3= Doom3

For me personally, I'm still an avid Q3 addict, so the only real reason to make a change to Q4 is to be part of a new Quake community. Other than that, I can't see that Q4 will offer 'me' more exciting gameplay. Maybe AS good, but not better. Which is not a bad thing. Of course, nicer graphics too, but I don't really care about that too much. So, if Q4 doesn't work out, I'm still happy with Q3 anyway.

I haven't anticipated a game since I was disappointed by deus ex 2. Only game I'm really checking for at the moment is serious sam 2, not that my computer will be able to run it.

Is there a custom texture/model pack for Deus Ex (upgrading gfx) cuz I would soo play it again, it looks kind of bland right now.

I run through deus ex every few months, and by the second level, you get used to the graphics.

Yeah, I had serious problems running the (2nd? I think) map on voodoo2 where you have to go in the tower to rescure the hostage, don't remember it was a while since I played it.

Original Quake is where it's at.
And regarding DM, I've come round to Hannibal's way of thinking here: Quake is fun precisely BECAUSE the weapons are unbalanced, not despite the fact.
And it's faster than Q3...

the only reason for buying q4 is to get an updated MP that stands true to the quake series. if the MP doesn't live up to what is should then i can't see myself playing this game much longer than it takes to complete the SP, if even that--much like in D3.
the only thing that kinda gets me down is that even if the MP does rock and a huge community arises out of it, i wont really have that much time to play it like i did the other quake series in the past.

If you hadn't bought that bottle of water you could have afforded to upgrade. Too late now.

thats what i liked about q3 when it was at its hieght of popularity,
you could just pop on for a few mins and get high action fast and get out.
although you can still find some action, theres hassles that add up to wasted time, that at times i dont have.

Trouble with q3 is that the vanilla gameplay is absolutely genius pure, fast-paced, balanced deathmatch which you can just log on for a couple of minutes and have a blast with, but by now all you can find online are shitty mods with crap like runes, inventories, etc. If you ever have to take your hand away from WASD during a deathmatch game, something's gone wrong.

Trent Reznor was gonna do sound fx for d3? didn't know that. would have improved the game a billion %. his soundtrack for classic quake was awesome, one of the best
