that is an impressive screenshot, but all this talk about lack of world interaction is not to be taken lightly. The more callus an environment is, the more detached the player feels. As a seasoned gamer I simply cannot overlook shortcomings like that. I don't care how you slice it, if the player model feels like a complete separate entity from its surroundings, the gaming experience feels like a condomed blowjob...and the prettier the surroundings under such circumstances the more reclusive the experience becomes. I honestly rather have square boxed rooms if that's what it takes to feel like I'm part of the environment.
Sure you can pardon Rage by calling it a straight shooter, and I can pardon myself from not being interested enough to play a game like that for the Nth fucking time...fuck you

It was aimed at 60fps mate...
Doom 4 is aimed at 30fps for the SP... I honestly expect it to fix all the shit people are moaning about with regards to Rage, as Rage was new ground remember.

The game was aimed at 60fps, certain cutbacks had to be made.
At 30fps, they can throw more detail and shit at it, so likely you will get your physics shite.

Indeed, running at 60Hz is double the game clock of just about every single modern FPS game out there and therefore must be optimized to about 1/2 the graphics fidelity. What this means is that if the game were redesigned (or another game based on the same technology were created) to run at 30Hz, you would be able to effectively double the amount of graphics you can throw at the GPU. So Doom 4 will potentially look at least twice as good as Rage even if they don't make any additional engine enhancements.

That's nice but they should have tried to make a game instead of an engine and art assets for the 6th fucking time.

Assuming they don't aim for 60Hz again?

They said about 10 times now Doom 3 is 30fps for single player, 60fps for multiplayer.
Also Obs, nightmare is a joke in this one sadly, no challenge at all.

Finally beat it. Ok, so, these are my issues wih the title and I hope these get fixed/changed. Now I LOVE the game, one of the best I've played this year, and stunning to boot. But I do have some gripes... Here be spoilers...
1) No continue play. What the shit, really? Not only as that THE worst ending in a game I've played for years, after THE worst level in the entire game, you don't let us go back...? So, that poses an issue... Mainly...
2)...that I can't finish off any races. I mean, Wellsprings is fine, but for some reason, all of Subway Towns races are closed... WHAT THE SHIT? Really?! Why? What use could that POSSIBLY serve? just allow us to save the game after its completed, and have us spawn back at Subway Town with the Authority gone? That way, I can get back and finish those races...
3) Cards. I don't mind these at all... But adding cards to locations that you will never be able to go to again? Soooooo poor an idea... So now I have that one card I forgot in The Well that leaves me at 49/50 cards or whatever it is (one shy), but I can't go back because for no reason at all, the well is locked... Theres no reason it should be locked. Once you complete the game, the ENTIRE THING should be open to go back and explore.
4) Driving... Sort it out guys. Terrible control? Check. Holding a button to look around when the mouse does NOTHING? Check. Slightly scraping a wall/car, and then having my car flip into the air and face the other way? CHECK. Ugh...
5) The multiplayer is balls. Sorry, I mean the Racing. Its shockingly bad. I played one game just to get the two achievements, and I will never touch that again. So poor. But the coop...
6)...is fantastic. Apart from the fact some idiot decided that if you play by yourself, achievements won't track. Why? What use does that serve, REALLY? If I want to beat it by myself, I should be allowed to, and THAT is an achievement...
7) Theres far, far, FAR too many places in the game that serve no purpose.... Other than to slap you in the face with a big "you mad bro?" smiley that whispers the words "DLC". Seriously, this place had me puzzled the entire game:
http://steamcommunity.com/id/gavavva/sc ... tab=public
8) No zoom add on for the crossbow... That should be illegal... For shame, guys...
9) That last mission… Yes, again… Just why? Why, why why? It was so out of place? Why so high tech? Why so clean? Why so SHIT?
10) Mutants… I remember the tyre mutants from the videos, but now they seem to be very rare, huge mutants instead… I liked it better when we had a more in-between version.
11) Sort the damn console out… Ok, so if I enable it, then I can’t get achievements. Fine, that’s ok, no big deal. But when you enable it, it does nothing anyway. Wheres my damn cheats? NoClip? I NEED my noClip fix so I can’t see how this shits made…
12) Hire somebody who knows what the FUCK they are doing with quick saves. I lost hours progress just because I forgot to save, and the last autosave was ages ago… Every time you get mission update it should trigger an auto save…
13) THAT LAST MISSION WAS WANK.
Other than the above, the game is pretty damn amazing, and has set me back in art for about 75 years while I cry I will never, ever be that good.
Apart from those cans on that shelf… That just made me laugh.

Dunno. Killing the Makron at the end of Quake 2 wasn't exactly revolutionary either

There's been only few games that had a truly satisfactory ending.

The secret room in q2 was pretty cool though. The last few levels were satisfyingly difficult, running into those fucking tanks in a 3 foot wide hallway.

1) Not only as that THE worst ending in a game I've played for years, after THE worst level in the entire game
-- I agree. The design was cool as shit (reminded me of Tron) but no final boss? I never even fired one of the BFG rounds despite having a stockpile. And plasma cannon versus mutant is a joke. But even then I mostly just wingsticked them all.
2) That way, I can get back and finish those races...
-- I did them all first, that way I was driving around like a bad ass. But I was sad you couldn't really go back too. I mean technically you could load you old save just to beat the races for the achievement.
4) Driving... Sort it out guys. Terrible control? Check. Holding a button to look around when the mouse does NOTHING? Check. Slightly scraping a wall/car, and then having my car flip into the air and face the other way? CHECK. Ugh...
-- You wanted the mouse to be free look while driving? Ew, fuck that. That is part of what makes vehicles so bad in every other game. I thought the controls felt pretty good but breaking/slowing down is where it all fell apart.
7) Theres far, far, FAR too many places in the game that serve no purpose....
-- As opposed to desolation?
8) No zoom add on for the crossbow... That should be illegal... For shame, guys...
-- Ugh, no doubt. I found myself using Fatboys a lot towards the end because the pistol had such a great short range scope.

Anyone visit the Sewers yet?
I've been staying out until I weapon up a bit more but i'm getting antsy to see what's down there.
- After the patch there's some random onscreen crap in the menus that don't show up in a screenshot, but once you enter the game it goes away.

Nothing is down there.
And by nothing, I mean the scientific expression of "FUCK ALL".
Theres the possibility of a yet unknown secret in the very first onee (Go into the first room on the left, and click the valve... also click the racking to the right), but other than that, its the most piss poor "extra" content you ever did see...
Looks sexy, but dull as fuck.

There are seven.
The one near the ark gives a quest when you enter and completing that quest gives you another on the job board. Not sure about the rest as I actually didn't notice them! There is lots of stuff to loot too. The ark one is easy as shit though. I cleared it with wingsticks and a pistol on nightmare.

I'm playing it and during the first launch after installation the framerate was 1 FP30S with massive texture popping as I walked out of the ark. I quit and relaunched the game and it's run smooth and nice ever since.
The environments are terrific and while up-close textures look shit the whole package is pure eyecandy. But as I play it I feel I'm just going through the motions...the gameplay ain't really blowing my skirt up. I'm four hours in with a shit-ton of weapons and firepower and I've yet to use anything but the pistol against enemies I've encountered. The race events are a nice change of pace and sorta fill out the "lived in" feel of the game world, but the gunfights and missions
*cough*grind*cough* aren't interesting or challenging at all.
I have to fully agree with ars technica's review of the game:
RAGE is creatively and mechanically bankrupt
It's not a complete POS, but it aint GOTY material.
