If you say the same about the second one I'm simply going to have to slap you with my dick. Right across the face.

deja vu - 6/10 - denzel washington and a very chubby val kilmer. a thriller set in nawlins with a terrorist and a time-travel sci-fi twist. worth one look, though if you had the machine those guys had in the movie you could watch yourself 4 1/2 days later watching the movie 4 1/2 days ago, but would still be 6/10
geddit..?

Zodiac - 7/10
Suffers from the same problems as Perfume - what may be a good book won't really transfer very well into a film. In this case it means a somewhat unfocused story with an uneven pacing. Also way to long at 2:40, would have been better if they managed to squeeze it down to below 2 hours.
Apart from that though, the 70's setting seem impressively authentic, and there are a few nice CGI shots that blend almost unnoticably into the live action shots.

The Condemned: 5/10
Despite deriving from rather interesting and worthwhile films (being a cross between Battle Royale and The Truman Show with a few little bits of Cannibal Holocaust thrown in), this is a turgid, vapid movie exactly as expected -- but it is almost wholly redeemed by the penultimate scene in which Vinnie Jones's ex-military serial killer psychopath massacres all of the annoying tech people who've been pissing you off for the last hundred minutes. I almost gave it a 6 for that scene alone, but the fight/death scenes weren't nearly good enough (they didn't try nearly as hard in this one as in The Marine to incorporate man to man combat a la WWE).

Eastern Promises: 8/10
Really good movie. Well written, and filmed. Shows how Cronenberg has matured as a director.

I think the whole Cronenberg-Mortensen thing is over-hyped. Viggo was good in this movie but all the critics have been raving about the barely-restrained menace in his eyes and I think it's a load of crap. He's no Pacino. But it's a solid movie.

Madagascar
Family animated

but worth the look for entertainment.
Some interesting times when dialogue points to other more adult movies, eg
Castaway and
Planet of the Apes
7/10

fantastic 4 2. 3/10
utter dogsplish.
harry potter 5 or whatever it is we're up to now. 2/10
maybe something happens in the books that makes you care about or or understand or believe in the characters.
planet terror 7/10
smiled all the way through it, apart from the bits where i was laughing and the bit with tarantino (which would've been much better with a real actor doing it).

War
what a lot of wasted potential, the trailer is more entertaining than the movie. Oh and nevermind the completely nonsensical plot twist.

Alien was on TV last night, so I watched "Aliens" on DVD instead, lol.
Still a fucking classic and beats the shit out of 99% of the tripe they call "good" these days.
17.6/10.
I hope they re-release it at the cinema this halloween... They sometimes have one nighters of them. Last year though it was Jurassic Park...?

Yeah this summer was the summer of movies with wasted potential. Not to mention that nicholas cage's character was SUPER creepy to that girl the whole time, god he's creepy.
The Kingdom was awesome, though. Michael Mann is always good.

I found the idea of a guy being able to see two minutes into the future more plausible than Jessica Biel inviting some random, wino-looking nutjob to ride with her on a car trip to Arizona and getting a hotel room with him.
I did like the way they portrayed Nic Cage dodging bullets as he walked towards the gunman, though.

I never thought Pacino was really that good, but you're right. I'm not sure Viggo was really that menacing.
