here's a shot of some monkey like animal (dunno exactly)... near McRitchie reserve, Singapore.
there were lots of them feeding on flowers and tiny berries and this one gave me quiet a stare when a tele lense was aimed at him! :)
Nice shot - I really like the shallow DOF here. What are you shooting with and what focal lenght/aperture did you use for that DOF?

Mark IV arrives tomorrow. :)

I never had that model - I think Form had the XT. I had an XSi for about 1 month, then upgraded to the 50D. It was about 11 months ago that I bought the 50D. This is really my last camera purchase for a long, long time.

This will be great for shooting basketball games in crappy gym lighting. Have had a lot of interest in the sports photography services I'm offering, this will help.

Here is a test at ISO 6400 - nothing special about the picture, haven't had time to do a decent side-by-side comparison of the two cameras, but the fact that this produces such usable images at ISO 6400 is such a big jump from what I am used to with the 50D.

yeh that looks pretty good for iso 6400!
mine gets noise even at iso100!
i'm using a 3yr old Olympus e410, entry level dslr :)
that shot i took was at 200mm (400mm 35mm equiv) at f/3.5
crappy body with decent glass, think I need to upgrade!

Nice eyes <3.

I'd love to upgrade my camera and lens but I just cant justify spending all that money right now. Mind you, I guess lenses do keep their retail value quite well.. decisions..

I'm gonna get a cheap enlarger from ebay and nab dad's old 35mm pentax and turn the spare room into a darkroom to do some old school B&W processing. I dabbled in it when I did my A Levels and really enjoyed all the hands on processing stuff, I'd like to give it another go, and for under £50 for an enlarger it's worth another go.

Here's the EXIF:

Camera: Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/7.1
Focal Length: 65 mm
ISO Speed: 400

That was with the 24-70L.

Processing was mainly just fucking around with different blend modes, high pass filter, masking stuff in, etc., until I had something like this. I sort of did what Yeahso mentioned when I asked him about his image - just messing with layer after layer until I got this - and this one is about 20 layers.

I would have thought f/7 would have kept the right eye in focus also? looks pretty cool though!

Nice picts urgrund777, tnf, seremtan and db.

I have a shit ton of photos I've taken over the holidays from my trips around Victoria...maybe I'll post a few some day. I was fortunate enough to use my friend's D700 while she was here from DK. One of my favorites is a close up of a wild baby koala as she was about to feed it.

I just got off my roof a few moments ago after taking several panoramas of the sunset...playing with different settings. I think I've come close to the perfect "sunset" config with my P&S.

hehe cool - we used to have those fat little bastards just waddle through our classrooms back at school!

have you done much shooting with other DSLR's GFY? I'm looking at a D700 for an upgrade - holding a few in shops they seem pretty solid! (compared to a E410!) and all the reviews I've read (many!) have all been positive! Could compare it to what you usually use?

Watch out! They stampede...and carry knoives!

The D700 was my first foray into DSLR country. I wanted to buy an SLR last year but life got in the way and I moved to the other side of the world. I still plan on getting one but it's number 4 on my list of "must have soon" items....maybe I'll buy one for myself next Christmas.

As to comparing it to what I'm currently using...lol...I'm still using my 3 year-old HP R927 P&S....so there isn't any comparison to the D700. The R927 is pretty decent for a P&S, but its sensor isn't all that. The D700, however, is indeed a nice machine and worth it's $3000 price. The dials for f/stop, exposure time and white balance are all at your fingertips (and roughly where you'd expect them to be) which is great for "see it, shoot it" type of photography that I usually do. It feels great in your hands and isn't overly heavy when carrying it around all day but my R927 is infinitely more portable. My friend had a nice lens (not standard) which increased the weight over the standard lens a bit, but I didn't notice it too much.

Weird thing is that my R927 has a better LCD display than the D700 for viewing photos in bright sunlight.

I *think* I am figuring out some of the techniques for the look to these types of shots.
Are there specific blend modes you favor or does it all depend on what you are after? I have been using overlay blending, then masking and getting the desired effect/opacity by brushing things in. My images are getting up there in layers - not in the sense of what a professional's images would be with ridiculous numbers of them, but 25-35 is pretty common now.

Also, do you ever use the High Pass filter? I've been playing with that using different blend modes and getting some good results - again, masking it. Just not sure what logic should go into determining the radius to use for it.
