Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
a couple of shots from work from my phone, i'd have liked to have taken my proper camera down to the mould storage and get some decent pics, but i kept forgetting:

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Couple of recent shots. Same guy as last time, plus a headshot from a shoot I did yesterday with a stunt coordinator who needed new shots for the world stunt register.

db, location please. yeahso - first dude is dreamy

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Yeahso - do you use studio flashes or just speedlites? If so, what brands of studio flashes do you use?
I really like the lighting in both those shots.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Studio flash, tnf, I'm not really a great fan of speedlights. A decent speedlight costs more than a mid-range studio head.
I use interfit Stellar heads, but I'll probably switch to Bowens or Elinchrom next year. I'm buying a Ranger Quadra pack next friday, so the full switch to Elinchrom is probably inevitable.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Yea - I went with some simple Alienbee studio lights for my studio flashes since I don't do a lot of 'studio' shots (not having a studio or enough room in the house to make one will do that). But they produce great light with my octabox. Just ordered a beauty dish for them as well. With the portable power supply I can set them up anywhere and it really isn't that much of a hassle if you have just one assistant with you during a shoot. If it is just me and the subject, I'll just bring the speedlights, stands, and some umbrellas, small softbox, whatever. I've been doing a bit of reading on lighting and didn't realize how particular the professionals have to be about the light they get from their flashes - I can see what separates the the entry level flashes like my AB's from the ones that cost 10x more.Yeahso wrote:Studio flash, tnf, I'm not really a great fan of speedlights. For what I need, though, I don't see ever needing much more than what I can get out of the Alienbees. If I were going to quit my teaching job and become a full-time photographer (not possible at my current skill level) I might consider upgrading in that area.
Finally Yeahso - did you learn studio lighting through simple experimentation/trial and error, or did you take any classes or read any books to get you started?

If anyone owns a Canon Powershot and wants to squeeze a bucket of additional functionality out of it:

Adding RAW support to most PowerShots is pretty damn impressive.
