I'm sorry somone went Rambo on your UN friendly crew that went to save the planet (and BTW suceeded) BUT at least they got it right the SECOND time and imposed their imperialistic agenda on the universe, despite it wanting to snuff us out.
Also they got rid of all the fissionable material to create the solution so we will all live in peace, except now we are vulnerable to nuclear weapon equipped a l i e n s that our tinfoil space suits will not protect us from and all the usual perils that we failed to fix like over population and our need to provide for their increasing needs on this planet.

Children of Men
With bourbon I give it almost a 9/10
without bourbon I'm not sure what I'd give it, but I enjoyed it tonight.

Wetherby - starring vanessa redgrave, 1985
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090310/
very good film - unique and interesting concept, very real performances, and provocative yet not too disturbing.

Lord of War 7/10
Already seen it, but now i seen it in high quality too ey. One of those films that would have been excellent without Nicholas onetrickpony Cage, but is still plenty good with him.

Re: The last movie you saw
My GF likes ths Saw movies for some reason. We watched the fourth one last night but it was so retarded and muddled in it's own terrible backstory that I didn't understand it at all.
Re: The last movie you saw
On second thought I saw a shitload of movies:
Halloween (Rob Zombie) - 7/10 Wasn't as bad as I had thought. Arguably more realistic than the others. Plus, as a kid I had a huge crush on the young girl in the movies. Well you see her tits in this movie (since she's all grown up now). So that was a nice full circle of prepubescent lust.
Dragon War - 5/10 Really really bad lead actors but the effects were kind of cool.
3:10 to Yuma - 7/10 I really like westerns but I found this one dragged a bit. All in all a good flick though.
Shoot em Up: 6/10 Stupid movie but highly highly entertaining. It was almost like a video game.

Re: The last movie you saw
I also watched Saw IV the other night, there was one attempted temporal shift in the plot at the end that was just completely impossible. I don't know why I keep giving those movies a chance, the original was the only one that was halfway decent.
Death Sentence - 7/10 The movie was fairly intense and has at least one decent twist, but Kevin Bacon makes the film. It's not an Oscar-worthy performance, but he's very convincing in the early going and his moral conflict comes through pretty well. Unfortunately the whole thing goes a bit Rambo at the end, but even that's well done.

Re: The last movie you saw
sunshine spoilers!
another thing I enjoyed about Sunsine was how effectively they portrayed the underlaying importance of the mission where it overruled everyones personal agendas (well except from that lunatic at the end)...you really got that feeling that no matter how fucked up the situation was they had to push forward almost instinctively without any second guesses.
Yes I know no big deal most movies do this.. yet in this one i didn't get the feeling of sensationalism where they would make you wish you where the hero... instead in this movie I really didn't want to be in their fucked up position yet overall their bravery is truly appreciated by the audience.

Superbad - 7/10
Some really funny moments, and quite a few very uncomfortable cringey situations. The policemen were awesome. Best highschool movie since the 80's.
Pathfinder - 5/10
Well, the production designer seems to have been playing a little too much Warhammer, but as long as you don't really make any claims of historical accuracy I guess you entitled to some "artistic freedom". Although a bit unfocused and with some pacing problems I found it entertaining, despite the general lack of story.

Ah well...the audience knew everyone was going to die before the movie started and it was just a matter of how. At least there wasn't a fucking Giger alien but I was half expecting that, too.Nightshade wrote:This was one of the things I found to be the most predictable.GONNAFISTYA wrote: I thought the build up of the character's beginning obsession with the sun's light to be an interesting development in terms of someone going batshit and wrecking the whole thing...

Re: The last movie you saw
The Mist = 7/10 - It did a pretty good job of following the book for the most part. The tension from the actors in most of the appropriate scenes was good (except for the "BOO! Gotcha!" and the obviously predictable moments).
I (and everyone in the theater) applauded when the bible-thumper bitch got smoked...and most of the audience wanted the store clerk to shoot her again...and they got what they asked for to a huge roar of laughter.
The religious fanatics really show that when Stephen King was in his prime he could put people in some really fucked up circumstances that summoned emotions in the reader. I get the feeling the show "Lost" borrows quite a bit from King in his approach to interplay between characters who are polar opposites.
This movie reminded me of something I'd forgotten lately: All fanatics, regardless of religion, should be summarily shot and killed or mocked and ridiculed at every opportunity...regardless if people think it's rude. They are much too dangerous to be left alive and will eventually be the end of us all.

The Jacket: 7/10
There Will Be Blood: 6.5/10
- i don't know what all the fuss is about. The performances are incredible without exception, but there's basically no storyline and the direction/cinematography seemed startlingly mundane, considering the rave reviews this has received
Juno: 8/10
- not as funny as expected, but a solid film that delivers on every level (just not as much as you might expect, again because of the reviews)
I've watched a bunch of other movies in the last week or two, but I can't remember for the life of me what they were!

Ratatouille 8/10 visually stunning with an enjoyable story. another instant pixar classic.
Re: The last movie you saw
Brokedick Mountain: 7/10 In honor of the dead guy I watched this last night. Good stuff. The two leads were fantastic...especially when the topic of their manly love guided their interactions. Some of the domestic filler (expanded by the screenwriters from the short story) wasn't as sharp but on the whole this was a good flick. Ledger certainly was on track to being a top shelf talent. I bet he's going to be great in Dark Knight.

I thought the animation in the movie and the fact that they were using real cooking techniques and recipes was interesting but the movie itself seemed kind of boring to me.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:Ratatouille 8/10 visually stunning with an enjoyable story. another instant pixar classic.

AvP2: Needs more teen-drama
=> 5/10
We own the night: Worst acting performance I have seen in recent years (Phoenix). Embarrassing => 3/10
Vanishing point: Got curious because it´s so prominently quoted in Deathproof. Slow movie about driving fast. Weird but buzzy => 7/10
