remember it like it was yesterday... sometimes I still don't know what to do but i fit and somewhat excel in this, and I think i take decent pictures. A couple people want to open a gym with me, probably will in a couple years.
puff, yep that's mah profile :P
just did that workout, did 5 rounds + 3 lifts. A lot harder than I thought it would be... did sloppy clean and jerks instead of quicker snatches to try and stay at a steady pace. will do it again in a couple days but in regular shoes and not heavy oly shoes. want to get 6 rounds
also since there aren't bumper weights here, the small 10lb weight (plus the 5lb) puts the bar closer to the ground so i figured i'd just go below the knee like the standards say you can, but that was way more f'ing tiring than just going down further and letting the ground stop the weight. will do that next time too.

My exercise has been hit as I have had a kidney infection but I should be back in the gym from Monday
By June I aim to be around 76kg (about 170lbs)

I always thought going to parallel was the easy type of squat, where as full squats (ass to calf) were for real men.feedback wrote: To parallel is the only way to fly bro, I use a low-bar stance. People think that going low will hurt their knees- it's wrong. Actually, not going to parallel will *cause* knee problems, because your quadriceps muscle actions won't be properly balanced by your hamstrings, which only activate once you get parallel.
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
Full depth, parallel is the "at least" part
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
Everyone has their own unique full depth
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
being able to go ass to grass depends on how flexible you are. one you're past parallel, your lower back might start to curve, this is not good.[xeno]Julios wrote:I always thought going to parallel was the easy type of squat, where as full squats (ass to calf) were for real men.feedback wrote: To parallel is the only way to fly bro, I use a low-bar stance. Had a two year lay-off from dead-lifting and had my fourth session today. Managed 180kg for 8 reps with relative ease.
Haven't really lifted for a couple of years, dropped just over 25kg in bodyweight. Gained 10kg back over the last eight weeks just with decent meals and heavy lifting.

Thought you were long distance running dude?
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
Pipe dreams, Don, I'm a bodybuilder, I was kidding myself if I ever thought I'd walk away from it. I'd love to do distance running, I even bought some special shoes, but alas, treading endless miles of pavement just isn't in me.

Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
That is fair comment. I have agreed to do the Bristol 10k with a friend which I am training for now and have found that I can run 2k slowly as you like but I am fucked at the end of it or I can run 2k really quickly but am equally as fucked at the end of it! I think I am a sprinter at heart and will not get the 10k distance sorted out.
That being said, 3 fitness sessions at the gym a week + other random running/bike riding should sort me out by September (when the Bristol 10k is)
I will post some progress reports so I can make myself look like a tit over the next few months

Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
I seem to be stuck around the 86.5kg mark at the moment, which is a bit shit. I lost some 9kg of fat in little over 2 months, which has been sustained and I am seeing a real difference in my fitness, but I am sadly lacking in weight loss.
It may have something to do with a heavy month on the beer, in which case I am very happy as I have stayed the same despite a rather unhealthy diet.
June is my 12 stone 6lb target and I am confident that I will make it. Also for that time I have a 7:30 2km row and a 24 minute 5km run in mind - should be fun getting there

Are you doing an interval training as part of your workout? This might help you boost your metabolism a bit which in turn can help you burn calories longer and lose weight faster.Don Carlos wrote:I seem to be stuck around the 86.5kg mark at the moment, which is a bit shit. Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
Basically you add some periods of high intensity training to your workout. For example if you ride a bike for 20 minutes regularly at a steady pace, do some 30 second intervals where you pedal all-out to get your heart really pumping. A brief warm up then 30 seconds going all out, 30 seconds going at 50-60% then back to going real hard for 30 seconds again. Repeat a bunch of times. There are lots of good resources out there if you google interval training.Don Carlos wrote:

Ah yeah I do that with my running - run 800m and then sprint 200m etcHM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:Basically you add some periods of high intensity training to your workout. My base level fitness is terrible so I am not running far at the moment, but I have my targets as I said

Running 5km in under 24 minutes
Rowing 2km in under 7 minutes 30 seconds
I am not doing distance on bikes as I find that quite easy...I can smash out 10k in a quick time at high resistance
