Just one more comment. I have never seen trim around windows and doors applied over the siding, is the rest of the house done this way. Usually the trim is applied first which would need to be thicker than a 1x. Its usually a 5/4 piece. then the siding buts into it. Then you don't have big ass holes behind the trims.
The piece your going to apply to the door for the trim we call a "Jamb extension". The correct procedure would be to set the door flush to the substrate then apply a 5/4 trim, then siding butts into the trim. All you hadda do was ask, I'm here all day. lol

But a window/wall unit will always look trashy. Your choice.

Actually unless u get ceiling cassettes with ductless it's looks equally trashy. But I'm telling u that the set up is perfect for a wall unit. It will not be seen from outside at all and will be tucked away in corner if room...

there are some very nice wall units that don't even have to go on a window, all they need is a small opening on the wall.... they are nice is shape, wide, short and thin. We had one of those for over 20 years in greece, surely the american morons have something comparable by now, look around a little.

I know what you're talking about and have seen what he's done. I think we both agree that at this point it doesn't look right. Which is the reason I asked for pictures when it's complete. Maybe he'll build custom trim that sits inside and overlaps the siding. Then fill in the gaps between the overlapping trim and siding with some kind of putty/sealant? Although it would have been much easier to do as you suggested. If he's smart he'll get himself a skill saw, set it to the depth of the siding and cut in his trim.

Listen fags...it's done both ways around this region...the house was built 43 years ago and has been renovated 3 or 4 times and is now 3 times the original size. The siding butts up to trim in a few place and trim is on top in others. I was actually gonna do it y'all's way at first but my moron father in law who has built a number of houses suggested trim on top..it's trim on top now get over it homos...

trim should always be on top...it's meant to cover up imperfections in the work...lol @ morons who think it's a cosmetic option.

If you can do impeccable work , then no need for old fashioned trim. if i could I wouldn't even put anything between my floor tiling and the wall sheetrock...For example I don't have any faggot crown molding where the wall and ceiling connect, cause those are easy points to get right.

My sarcasm meter is almost redlineing, but just in case your serious: "UNINFORMED DUMBASS ALERT"
Fact: poor people can't afford crown molding, but say they don't like it to hide the fact they are POOR.

Can you take some closer shots. I'm interested/concerned how the trim finishes to the window... Did you do anything to complete the moisture barrier around the window? If not it will be a great place for the wood to rot, mold to grow and bugs to enter.
