Captain Mazda wrote:Why should you care so much what someone thinks about a fictional film? If everyone on an internet forum were to shit on a film that you might have wanted to see, would it affect your decision? Seriously, who watches Indiana Jones expecting some sort of cinematic masterpiece a la V For Vendetta or Lawrence of Arabia?
It was entertaining and that's all I care about, because I'm not some sort of wannabe-elitist who goes to the movies to scoff and drop his monocle into a champagne glass.

Maybe someone just needs to explain the concept of "different folks, different strokes" to you.

Thanks!
I really enjoyed Appleseed, but because I'm not a hardcore anime fan, I wasn't aware this was out.
Going to see if I can pick it up somewhere.
I shaw it in the previews when I picked up a dvd rental of Batman begins

thx 1138.

8/10 classic george lucas, great effects (for 30 or so years ago?) and terrible unconnected random plot, but for some reason i enjoyed it.

Either that or he's laughing at the massive level of retardation your opinions on films always contain. :olo:

Cloverfield. 8 -10.

80 mins flew past, even my fiance loved it and she hates monster films.

They live

Really Carpenter's magnum opus, IMO.
Soaking with 80's goodness.
Roddy Piper is perfect as the heavily bemulleted prole protagonist in a fascist, alienated world.
Plus, of course, the seemingly endless CRIPPLE FIGHT! lol

went on a $60 binge on the 2nd hand rack @ blockbuster recently.

A Mighty Heart: 7/10
for being an angelina jolie movie, i was skeptical. but this one is actually worth watching. Noting super-fantastic, but a well made film.

The Painted Veil: 9/10
Fucking outstanding movie. It could have sucked, but Noami Watts and Ed Norton's characters go in a completely more twisted development path than I was expecting.

Eastern Promises: 8/10
Also an excellent movie. Vigo creeps me out a bit the way he gets a bit too into his characters.

American Gangster: 6/10
Less Russell Crowe and this would have been great. Needed to be more of a gangster movie than a cop movie. That being said it's still an above average movie.

Attonement: 8/10
Great movie, certainly deserved being up for best picture. I just found the latter stages of the movie to be a bit disappointing.

Sweeney Todd: 6/10
Just above average... Did not live up to expectations, but didn't suck either.
Knowing the plot from the old version and play probably contributes to the "meh" factor. But I was expecting Tim Burton to do something more interesting than this. The washed out blue scenes and other cinematography issues really fuck up the atmosphere.

Accross the Universe: 7/10
Plot is entirely predictable and kinda corny from start to finish, but it's a rock opera, so that's par for the course. However, I liked it because I like the Beatles. And when Eddie Izzard showed up I fucking lost it.

The Darjeeling Limited: 7/10
If you like Wes Anderson movies, this one will not disappoint. Adrian Brody is great, and this was one of the few times I've actually liked Owen Wilson.

Rattatoile: 7/10
It's pixar and it's good, nuff said. (though the bit with the guy's hair is just stupid... lost points for that)

2001: A Space Odyssey

The Other Boleyn Girl - crap/10.
it's like being color blind and watching the tudors in fast forward with a less attractive cast and even worse dialogue... oh, and no sex. yawn. oh, and it's just a shit movie on top of that. the pacing is sorry and it spans a few years of history but there's no indication when the plot skips ahead in time. your basic bad film adaptation.

gotta agree with the doc about Eastern Promises. picked that up once because nothing else looked interesting and it turned out to be really good.

double feature at the drive-in.

Happening: 3/10
Would have made an interesting x-files episode, but made a bad movie.

The Strangers: 6/10
Not bad as a thriller. Ending is pretty "meh"

awesome movie, and i'm pretty sure the old guy feeding pigeons on the bench outside the white house (to the left of roy scheider and the black guy) is arthur c. clarke himself

just checked: i was right: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086837/trivia

it's subtitled but it's just a wonderful piece of work. Sets right after ww2 (read: it's not a ww2 movie) where the government in germany was pretty much monitoring everyone and everything...very original, very refreshing

it gets a 9/10 for it's genre and probably an 8/10 as an overall movie.
Saw this a few weeks ago and I agree. 9/10
Thought it was very well made and enjoyable from start to finish.

it isn't set right after ww2. not even close. it's set in the 1980's - hence Germany reunifying at the end and they're all still alive. jesus.
