Ehh, I was pretty high when I watched it, and it still didn't live up to the audio recording I've heard.

The audio recording of the book is a lot better in my opinion.

you're actually totally right about that.
I've heard the unabridged audio book and even sober it makes you feel like you're in the head of a high mad-man. Though, johnny depp is pretty fucking excellent in that movie.

I've watched the 3 movies Rob Zombie made in the past couple of days, very well filmed imo. But what is with the "every girl in my film must be raped"...

Very unique movie. It's really neat to see something that is truly original and unapologetic as this. Course them Japanese is real crazy and shit. I'd recommend this movie if you're tired of the same old shit and don't mind a mildly fucked up story line with lots of cheesy gore.

The Incredible Hulk: 7/10

Probably the second best comic book movie so far.

Watched Kung Fu Panda last night.
Predictable, obligatory montage, a few good chuckles. Nothing spectacular but not a waste of money. 5/10

Diary of the Dead.
Not a bad film, but still nowhere near as good as Dawn.
Good zombie effects, so nothing wrong there, but a rather wooden young & pretty cast and Romero's seemingly poor grasp of documentary style film-making stop it from being truly great.
Additionally, Romero seems to be losing touch with what made his earlier movies great: shrewd social commentary.
There are messages in the movie, but they're a lot more shallow than the messages in Night, Dawn & Day.
Worth a watch, but don't expect anything deep.

Dawn of the Dead (the original) just seems to get better and more prescient the older I get.

was on sci-fi last night so i decided i'd treat myself and see exactly wtf this ewe boll controversy is all about.
one of the worst movies i've ever seen.

terrible costumes: check
uninspired acting: check
it only escaped being a flat 0 because they managed to get film in the camera and edit together something that had a beginning, middle, and end.

You're being too kind Matt. This was a bad film.
I am an unapologetic whore of all things zombie. Romero has thoroughly lost a grasp on what used to make his movies great - and it's not just the lack of social commentary in his films. His grasp of the medium is simply dated now and he seems either unable or unwilling to catch up with the times. He also needs to be a bit more mindful of who he's casting in his movies as his last two efforts were rife with terrible actors (see the Professor in DotD).

As an overarching statement what I think made this movie so bad was that from minute 1 he lost track of what the movie was about. The documentary take on a zombie apocalypse is a fantastic idea and I would love to see it done justice (hence why I can't wait for [rec] and WWZ). In order to do this there needs to be a grittiness to enhance the realism of the situation. This movie had clean cuts and steady shots which made the "realism" that much more unrealistic. It also didn't help that the actors were very clearly "acting" throughout the whole thing - albeit poorly.

lmao It came on here a few nights ago, I was able to watch the first few minutes but had to run out for a bit and missed... glad I decided to leave now.

You won't be disappointed with [rec]. And you're right, it's everything "Diary" should have been. Tense, gritty, believable, and with a good dose of social commentary.

WWZ I have high hopes for too, as I have some faith in Brad Pitt's company after seeing The Assassination of Jesse James. Granted, it was long-winded, but it was a decent film with high production values, amd a great performace by Casey Affleck.
I just hope he doesn't ruin the movie by trying to take a central role in it. WWZ should be many people's stories and shouldn't focus on any particular one over the other.

Oh, and call me mad, but I think Holly Hunter would be perfect to play the pilot who crashes in swampland.

Edit: Just be sure to see the original Spanish [rec] and not the upcoming US remake, Quarantine. While I can't cast aspersions on that version, the original deserves to be seen.

Oh yeah, and another one worth keeping an eye on is Autumn, an adaptation of David Moody's novel of the same name.
Sure, it looks low budget, but it's an interestingly different spin on the genre. I'm reading the books at the moment, and they're pretty damn good, if a bit bleak.

Never seen either version before, much enjoyed it. Will be watching again a few times very soon. Long-ass cut though.

Also, I would never have seen it if my friend hadn't sent me a copy. Again, I'm not into the Cars/Ratatouille/Incredibles type animations but I enjoyed this one.
