my bar stool with the scope strapped to the top of it via ironwoody band #3 (blue), tilted back onto a regular camera tripod to give it some elevation... hey it works though :)

Uhhh Andy, do you plan on using it anywhere other than your home?

I don't know why, I got this image of you on the beach with that thing taking pics saying "shut up, shut up, shut up" as people walk by.

This is a sidewalk that normally resides at the bottom of a lake that was created when the Grand Coulee Dam was built, flooding several small towns. The lake is currently dammed off as there is a lot of spring runoff. This town was last above the water somewhere around 1942.

Through the new scope... this thing works really well with the camera, and is crazy when looking through the eyepiece. I wish I could get the detail that was in the eyepiece... maybe with a real mount. This setup was, .. tricky :)

The moon doesn't fit in the frame completely, but I have every part of the surface covered and when i get teh photoshops I'll put them together, that should be mid-week as I'm buying it off someone that bought it with the student discount. score

and this one is my favorite

So those were with the larger scope, this one is with the one I've been using:

I liked your earlier moon pictures better. It feels like there was more detail in them. granted it was probably its position to the light source and the shadows that naturally occur because of it, but these "full moon" images are somewhat flat, and seem blurry in comparison. Not sure if it has something to do with your settings due to the fact that the moon seems brighter now and you lose the detail on the surface or what.

I do see now what you mean here Tsakali as I go back through those shots. The earlier ones have more depth/detail.

Still beautiful work andyman

It's just because of the light filling in every nook and cranny, you can't really tell any depth. The good thing is that there's still another 2 weeks or so to get all the lovely shadows on the left side of the moon, which I will do. Going to strap the scope to the mount with mini cargo straps :)

I found it very hard to get the focus right on the full shots too...

I have more pictures, but waiting to get photoshop to merge the shots since the moon doesn't fit the frame. Also shot a mosiac with the 2x adapter and will put that together. with any luck it will turn out well.

from tonight though...

I like the overall effect and the desaturated colours, but I find the cow distracting and the tree a little too centred. Might look better if it followed rule of thirds and shifted to the left.

Normally, I take advice on my work, but in this instance I don't think you're right.

There are two lines converging into a point with a main visual device at the tip of the converging lines. If it shifted to the left, there would be a giant gaping space with no visual information. Also, if it shifted to the left, I would lose all of the cloud detail that is balancing that side of the shot.

The rule of thirds doesn't really work when you're photographing what is essentially a triangle. ROT is used to create drama or dynamics in static visual shapes.

I felt the same about the cow, but when I turned the layer off for comparison, the shot just lost something that I couldn't explain. It was boring without it.

That is my most popular Flickr upload ever. It has had 165 comments in three days, and was also accepted on oneeyeland.com, which is probably the most prestigious photography site on the internet. I'm well chuffed.

Actually, I just tried it with a left composition, and it does look pretty cool, but the clouds don't quite look right, and it loses the middle-of-nowhere look and just becomes an ordinary mountain.. But it's more balanced than I expected it to be.
