Very nice stuff there Sock! The lighting is great in the latest ones. Makes me want to open radiant up and play around again.

Very nice.
What's the distribution purpose of this scene, now?

Thanks everyone for the comments, it certainly took me a while to create and get right. I had lots of good feedback along the way and the extra input from everyone shows in the final result.
@ScrotcH, long time no see! I remember you had some Q3 stuff that could be finished! :)
@Bliccer, There are no plans to release this map, it was just a playground for my new textures to see if they worked well enough together. I only plan to release the textures later.

I love that last shot sock.
I'm curious, do you work in game design or is it strictly a hobby? I figure what you do with q3 must be a hobby, but do you work professionally? Your shots are consistently amazing and being able to pull it off with older technology makes it all the better, I'd love to see what you can do with new engines!

Haha any new fps just needs to advertise "maps by sock" on the front cover! And I couldn't care less about the rest, instant sale.

After spending years in one engine, why change to another, starting all over again? Change is stupid.

And why do you color your posts in yellow. Weirdo.

I set my post color to Blue. Doesn't mean I'm weird now, does it?
Anyway, I love that Industrial Texture Set Sock, looking forward to seeing it used in some future maps.

Yeah it does, genius.

If we really needed people's posts to be colored, forum software would've had that feature by now. But, they realized it would be a stupid ugly thing to do, so they didn't. They kept it normal. You like being normal? No, of course not. You're unique, and special. Right? lulz.

@HomerJ, Thanks for the compliments. I have done some professional work, but it is not the same as personal projects. I have links to it on my site if you are curious.
@^Ghost, true mappers don't wear pants! ;)

I finally got a chance to organize the other images (small/medium/large formats available) for your viewing pleasure and I quickly wrote a bit of waffle about the map for anyone that is interested.

I'd like to request you include history images as well. The first images you had. The ones without the blue.

Hey sock, remember Flipper? Of course you do. I was thinking that it would make a great iOS app if you knew anything about porting stuff over. I'm sure you can make a fine barrel of cash by selling it a buck apiece.

Good stuff Sock.
I found your 'waffle' very interesting.
I find when professional designers/artists describe their methods and work flow very helpful. I found especially helpful the section on detail passes. I hadn't reached a point in my own work flow where I'd rationalised the process quite so clearly, that will be very helpful in the future.

awesome stuff sock

one thing though: that overhead window could do with being a lot grubbier, given the environment

@deqer, I am not convinced this would be useful to anyone. I really only want people to enjoy the end result, the progress screenshots are ugly compared to the finished map.
@obsidian, man I thought you had disappeared, not seen you since the 'whats on yer screen' thread. Yeah I have plans for flipper but need the time to do something with it. I am not convinced anyone will pay for it on the Ipad but it certainly would be a cool experiment to try.
@dONKEY, detail can be added to map in stages, but most people stop with the basic stuff. It takes time to go the extra mile and tell a story with the environment. Can be good fun if you have people to bounce ideas off, it certainly something you should try with other people.
@g0th, thanks :) My intention was to make people double look to see if it Q3.
@seremtan, funny you should mention that, someone else said the same thing to me yesterday!

sock wrote:What surprised me the most was the trouble with the external light maps, they did not support the hot glow effect and the marble behind all of the torches was dull. This led to some parts of the map needing different lighting models to cope with the visual effects and some weird problems with shadows across seams. For some reason the external maps had strange jagged lines and had to be manually fixed in Photoshop which took a while because of several compiles.
I think that's the same problem I was having with overbrightbits and external lightmaps. So far, from what I can tell, Q3Map2 isn't doing something right:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=46294&p=878028

What kind of jagged lines are you referring to? Do you have a screenshot as an example?

Excellent stuff Sock. Really like the library;especially the mosaic Moon tiles. Not been on here for years so it's good to know people are still knocking out great Q3 maps!
