I wanted to see Hellboy or Hulk tonight, but it looks like popular vote has me committed to seeing Hancock.

Just got home from seeing Journey to the Centre of the Earth in 3D! 8/10, fucking great with the 3D glasses on.

Yeha, saw JOurney to the center of the Earth in 3D tonight.
Wasn't bad at all, apart from the little shits who went with no adult and sat there trying to grab everything that came at you.
Good flick, not exactly award material, but still a good watch. Don't think I would of thought as much if it wasn't in 3D.
Then again the last 3D film I saw was Terminator 2 the Ride at Universal Studios, which will always set the benchmark in awesome for me. Nothing beats 3D shit flying at you and people shooting shit on bikes who are REALLY in front of you. Awesome.

I was pleasantly surprised by Hancock, after all the negative things I've read about it. Will Smith even had some decent acting for a change. I don't care for him personally, but every now and then when he plays a character that lets him be himself a little, where he isn't uptight and over-acting, he does okay and the movie benefits from it. Obviously not as good as the first Men in Black, but I'd say the best movie I've seen of his since then.
7/10

Oh, and earlier I watched Nature: Ocean Wonders - Encountering Sea Monsters (2006, PBS). What a great ocean documentary. It focuses almost exclusively on cephalopods, from Nautilus and Blue-Ring Octopus to Humboldt Squid, and has some very cool shots. The guy actually takes a clear tube with strobe lights down a couple hundred feet in the night to try to attract the Humboldts, which have apparently been known to attack and kill humans before (he'd been attacked by one in the past). He also hand-feeds a couple of octopus in the wild. Pretty cool stuff.

Hellboy 2 - 4/10
This movie was simply all over the place. Going into a meeting but I will type more when I'm done.
edit: Ok, so the story felt extremely disjointed - also it felt completely separate from the first movie. Some of the threads of conflict were completely dropped and other parts of the story felt really tacked on. The whole tension between Hellboy and humanity went absolutely no where. Furthermore the character motivations were completely fucked up. Why did Von Strauss suddenly change his mind at the end of the film and become "one of the team"? Because of what Liz said to him? That's pretty weak. Also, it wouldn't change the antagonistic relationship between him and Hellboy.
Also, did anyone notice the absolutely horrendous overdubbing in the film?

Funny Games (the US remake)
Brutal.
*Very* uncomfortable and intense viewing.
I also saw Haneke's Austrian version, and he stays close to the original.
Guess you have to be 'in the right mood' to appreciate it, though, moreso than other movies;
It has some really static scenes that last for minutes, some impossible plot twists, and the viewer occassionally gets addressed directly.
Oh yeah, probably in poor taste to say so in the context of the movie, but Naomi Watts is as fit as a fiddle

I am Legend - 5/10
The premise was good, but the execution kind of crap. The CGI "monsters" were computer game quality at best. Wtf is wrong with traditional makeup?
I didn't care much for the religious clichéed bullshit either. Was that in the book, or did they invent it for the movie?

Funny, that's also the last movie i have seen. I give it both the same grade and agree with your critique

Cloverfield - 7/10
Now, this is how you make good use of CGI. Excellently blended with the real environments.
I like the fresh perspective of an ordinary group of people, instead of your standard Hollywood hero. If anything, I'd have preferred if they had shown even less of both the big and little monsters than they did. Otherwise very well crafted and enjoyable to watch.

You sure watch movies awfully fast there, Grudge.
