If you're already thinking about moving from a D50 to a D80 after only what, 3 months?, you might as well just save up for a D200saturn wrote:should I wait everytime for next years model? I'm not going to shell out lots of money for a top-entry DSLR when it's going to be my first SLR (plus I didn't have the money for it)
I still like the D50 very much and I'm going to use it at least another year.
D80 + 18-200mm VR will serve you well for a long time unless you like to shoot in harsh conditions(sand, rain, snow) or shoot sports than the D200 is better. Other than that, the D80 is practically the D200 inurds wrapped in durable plastic and with greater shot capacity per charge.
Aren't you practicing medicine? What's another 700? 1 week's work...

heh.. I spent half an hour yesterday trying to hide my shadow in a photo I was making for class like your last shot.
I can tell saturn is doing the same thing I did where I kept trading up.. Now I have the gear I wanted in the first place and the gear I don't really want and some of it never gets used. Time to hit teh ebay...

Shadow of twig? Anything else I don't think you have to struggle much to hide your shadow. You're a stick! :icon25:Dave wrote:heh.. I spent half an hour yesterday trying to hide my shadow in a photo I was making for class like your last shot.

I did the same thing in terms of upgrading. Well..when I went digital(SLR) I didn't have much of a choice as only the D70 and D100 were available and I didn't want to waste money on the 4 megapixel D2H. I also looked at Canon and didn't like the 10D because it was slow compared to the D70 plus couldn't afford a 1D-series. I used for D70 for 2+ years before getting a pro-body so that was a good choice I think.
These days the choices are more and more abundant and I can see why the D80 is very tempting compared to the D50.
heh, there's tons of other stuff to pay.....and a fresh medical resident is paid that much in an academic hospital.FanaticX wrote:D80 + 18-200mm VR will serve you well for a long time unless you like to shoot in harsh conditions(sand, rain, snow) or shoot sports than the D200 is better. The 18-200 VR sounds nice, though i wonder if the distortions will bother me too much.
You'll probably be happy with it if you can actually manage to get your hands on one... unless nikon finally figured out how to manage productionsaturn wrote:heh, there's tons of other stuff to pay.....and a fresh medical resident is paid that much in an academic hospital.FanaticX wrote:D80 + 18-200mm VR will serve you well for a long time unless you like to shoot in harsh conditions(sand, rain, snow) or shoot sports than the D200 is better. Nikon bundled the D200 and 18-200, but it was (and might still be) impossible to buy the 18-200 alone and almost impossible to get the kit. The guy I work with waited for 3 months on a waiting list, but gave up and got the 18-70/D200 list and as far as I know is still on a waiting list for the 18-200
