Aside from that De Jong kung fu stuff (really, wtf was that...) we mostly got robbed by the ref, who seemed to use his whistle only when we gained posession. Very un-english to break up the game every 10 seconds for nothing at all. And if you have to dish out 11 yellow cards, you're doing a bad job. Some terrible calls there...

Wouldn't have minded if spain won with at least 2-0 and superior play, but this just sucked. Meh.

I think there will be a lot of fiery responses from the Dutch in general. The negative criticism the Dutch squad received for these finals hurts a lot. The Dutch are used to seeing their squad play glorious and good looking football. There's been a lot of criticism on the current playing style of the orange squad from the Dutch themselves. It's too formal. Not nice to look at. It's only efficient.

The Dutch want to see good looking gracious football from their squad. They want to be remembered as a country who is a joy to watch. I think the negativity surrounding this last match combined with the criticism on the Dutch squad's playing style is what hurts the Dutch fans the most.

Well, it can go both ways. Yes, aggressiveness and physical strength is a core part of football. However, it's not a contact sport in the same sense as hockey, simply because anything worse than pushing and shoving is prohibited.

Have to say I was appalled at the tackling (also appalled by the ref - he should've got some kind of handle on the players before he started having to give out 14? yellow cards). Don't think we'll see Webb refereeing more big games anytime soon.
Holland would have been lucky to have 9men on the pitch let alone 10 tbh. Was the Dutch game plan "hack the bastards til you get a yellow card, unless you're Van Bommell then keep going anyway"?

Well done Spain, the best team won. Was I the only person watching the game and worrying that the Dutch might steal the game on penalties? That would've been a travesty given how the game was going, and yeah whoever said they'd have been hated for it would be right.

It's not the system Holland played this WC, that's the whole national discussion over here. We played like Inter, which is a bit like watching a snake strangle a prey for 90 minutes... you appreciate the technique and the cold ruthlessness of it all, but it's not a pretty sight.
