Where did you hear this?

A common job for me will have at least 8 hours of retouching on top of whatever I'm shooting.

If someone isn't applying any retouching to an image, it's NEVER because of ROI. It's because deep retouching isn't required or they simply don't have the skill.

Even on a headshot session that I charge £200 for, I put in roughly the same amount of retouching time that I put in on commercial jobs that I charge £1200 a day for.

You would have to... when you set a standard for yourself, people expect that standard when they hire you.
Not that i've ever been hired, but just saying.

that sounds more like a personal take on the issue....and I'm sure the £1200 customer would take offence to that.

Once you start having more jobs than you have the sense to take on, you'll see a shift in your paradigm. I've seen it happen to people that I sometimes have to deal with through mutual clients. I guess that would be a personal take on my part too :smirk:

wait, you expect extra credit simply for paraphrasing me (and missing the point in the process) before serving yet another pointless reply?

"finished a project with Steve McCurry" sounds awesome eh, almost like you were right there at his side, dodging bullets and rpg's and shooting pictures of beautiful Afghan girls. What happened really, did he order a large printout of one of his shots?

i retouched, balanced, colour managed and printed 40 64 x 90 inch prints for his UK retrospective, which was a total pain in the ass.

well he was in New York so didn't get to meet him and when he visited the show i was in Spain.

Very fussy about the detail. We spent thousands on wasted print media getting it right because soft proofing's a massive waste of time where's there's no standards to hit.
