Funny, there's a spider that's been living on my back deck near the motion-light for the last ~6 weeks catching all the retard bugs that think the light is some cool place to be, and he looks like this. I fed him a crane fly once, he loved that.

I just realized Mazda was posting actual photos and not trolling photos like the last two pages...

well it's been rainy, too humid, or cloudy all week to get more moon shots but now that it's the weekend i don't mind staying up later to wait for the moon to be in view. Plus it's at half moon now so it's much easier to shoot and will have more craters

does your camera have a fast enough shutter speed to take a picture of the sun?

No, but he could buy a very simple neutral density filter to block enough light to take a very decent exposure.

This stuff is really beginning to generate serious income. Before I shot headshots, my studio would just be completely empty in between advertising jobs. Now it's full six days a week, and completely fits around my main advertising schedule. I'm shooting some seriously famous people, on occasion, too.

No, this stuff is really recent. I'm an advertising photographer in my 'day job', although a lot of it is headshot work, it's mostly the very over-processed stuff you see in commercials.

But yeah, definitely a decent money maker. I can't charge anywhere near what I charge a commercial client, but so far it's proving to be good for about £1000 a week on top of my normal earnings. Definitely not to be sniffed at.

But wait, we have yet to find out via the truth thread whether failing to convince everyone he was a wholesale cocaine supplier was part of his elaborate ten year troll. We shall know soon enough though.

I think the headshot market depends largely on where you are as well. But if you get in good with a local advertising or modelling agency you can make decent consistent extra money as they'll send a ton of people to you.

Picked up one of those 10 stop (1000x I think) ND filters. Fun for those long exposures in the daytime.

Yeah, location is important. My studio is in Chelsea, which is great for all the luvvies. A couple of agencies use me exclusively, but I also get about 50% of my work organically. I'm on the first page for a shitload of relevant keywords. I worked hard on my SEO when I started in January. I took more or less a month off from work and concentrated purely on SEO. It was mind-numbing, but now I'm the top result on a the majority of keywords like "headshots in london", "headshot photographer", "actors headshots", etc...

Went all out and did 76 layers on this one. the bottom right and the round edge came out shoddy, will see if less layers fixes it (usually does, too tired to do it atm)

What do you recommend sharpening them in? I have photoshop and lightroom. Think it should be done before or after putting the picture together? Only asking to save time... takes a couple hours to assemble a picture.

I don't think that last picture is going to straighten out, i tried a few more times with less and less pictures in the mix and it still left artifacts and double craters and things. Those last two were with the 25mm eyepiece in, and I just put in the 2x in front of the 25mm to try to do tonight. Going to be a bitch to focus but once that is done i'm going to mainly shoot the terminator. Tonight is one of the last nights to do this, as the moon is in position around 0230 and since I'm off tomorrow, no worries on not sleeping! Next week i'll just get up early and shoot the crescent.

Play with the radius on the high pass, andy, and also use a low opacity eraser to slightly rub out parts that become oversharp.

The problem with the high pass sharpening menthod is it tends to thicken fine detail and make it look embossed.

This isn't a particularly noisy image, so if you use a simple unsharp mask with a radius of between 1.4-1.7, and a percentage of around 170-180, it'll probably look better.

did a bunch of layers, it definitely comes out clearer... rather, not as dull on the edges of the features.

Sysop - I'd be interested in any feedback or suggestions you have for lighting shots like the back double bicep image I posted on the previous page. That was a first ever fitness/physique themed shoot - used a beauty dish for the main light, a strip box for some fill, a couple speelites bare for rim. Anything you'd suggest I do for future shots like that or just general tips you have for creating maximum detail and definition when lighting stuff like this?

Agreed, it's great if used with the slightest of adjustments but very easy to over do it.

unsharp masking i do 0.8/25% then reapply, normally twice.

Actually, yeah, your way is better if you reapply.
