Don't understand why Eraser's quite so wet for it - but Rage is very pretty and a lot of fun for what it is, and will be well worth picking up on budget. There's no reason at all to pick it up at full price and personally I regret having done so.

I'm just looking forward to the DLC which gives me the ending I paid for. That will be nice.

I guess it's one of those love it or hate it things, but I am enjoying it. It's better than Doom 3, Quake 4, Gears of War, Prey, Dead Space and FEAR, a bunch of comparative FPS/TPS games of similar gameplay that I've played. But not at the same level as something like HL2.

I really don't think it should be compared to Fallout or Borderlands (neither of which I really liked) as the gameplay between Rage and these games are just not the same. Rage is alike to these in setting only. Regardless of what people tell you, or even in Rage's advertising, this game is a simple, fun, raw first-person-shooter. The RPG elements are mere distractions at best, the RPG elements are like a mini-game tossed in.

So I think the grinding RPG lovers are the ones to be disappointed. The FPS crowd should like it. It plays fast and smooth like a FPS should. I sprint into rooms and pop my shotgun in people's faces. Shooting from behind crates is for morons who play noob games from the same people who made Unreal Tournament instead of real games like Quake 3.

Due to Eraser his constant propaganda spreading, I decided to atleast finish it. I played a couple of hours yesterday, got 11 hours into the game now and I have recently jumped to subway town.

I'm trying to look past the negatives and just focus on the shooting parts. Which was always the best thing about the game anyways. I have to fight lots of mutants and the moment and it's always the same with mutants. They lock you in a room and you just have to survive the waves untill it magically stops. This mechanic really bothered me in Duke Nukem Forever as well. Luckily, I'm now going to fight humans again and that's a lot more fun.

Now that I'm pretty far into the game [atleast I think I am] I'm also noticing the amount of recycling they did. You visist an location, go from A to B and a couple of missions later, you go to same location again but now go from B to A. That makes it really predictable and they do this with almost all major sites. You can basically cut this game in half content wise.

I'm reading this back and I have to laugh, it just seems impossible to really be positive about it :)
Oh, btw, this game ain't got shit on FEAR or Dead Space imho.

Hey, but atleast it gave us 22 pages of bitching :)

I have posted several times before in this thread about how much I have enjoyed the game. I stand by those posts, and at the risk of looking like a giant tool, I'd actually like to make a huge, gushing post about how much I enjoyed it.

I had some criticisms though, and the majority of them haven't been posted anywhere, by anyone. They aren't the big, obvious ones like, "oh the game is too short," or, "the storyline is thin," rather, these are game design decisions that I thought could have given the game systems a bit of depth.

Bandages need a cooldown, say 1-2 minutes. As it is, you can stock up and bandages and just spam them in combat, a la Diablo 2 health potions. Really dumb gameplay. They also need a limit for how many you can have in your inventory. For that matter, every item, including ammo, could use a more realistic limited amount, other than 999. It makes the game too spammy and contributes to its ease. This is doubly true for wingsticks.

Gear benefits should have readable, numerical stats. "Decreases damage," or "increases speed," is too kid-gloves-ish for me. Show me exactly how I'm improving my character, so that more meaningful choices can be made when choosing gear. Along those lines, the Anarchy Edition armor combined everything into one suit, and totally removed the decision-making process. They should have saved that suit for something like a NewGame+ reward. They could have made gear much more interesting.

A final word on gear -- I wish the quest rewards were more meaningful than just a few bucks. You do get the occasional, optional quest that lets you upgrade your defib or your health pool, but it would have been nice to get incremental stat upgrades to your gear via quests. More quests are needed to accommodate that system, I guess.

A bit of a nit-pick, but on the PC version, I don't know why they included the weapon selection mini-menu, when regardless of the four weapons on your menu, you can keybind and use all of the weapons.

Finally, there should be a better map system. This includes a legit world map with named areas. I appreciate the WoW-ish QuestHelper-style dotted trails that lead you to quest objectives, and that's fine, but they could have done much more with the map system.

All that said, the game is fully functional and still very fun. Those are just some things that I think would have given your choices a little more weight.

Now that I have finished Rage. I found it to be too short. I wish there were at least two more city's to explore.

Come to think of it and I played it on hard, I never ever had to use a bandage.

I fully agree with all that Mogul said.
I thought that having the Anarchy edition ruined the whole armor suit selection thing as well. It was just really pointless. But to be honest, I'm not sure how much of a difference any of the other armors would've made anyway if I didn't have the crimson armor.

lol I was wondering why I had the choice of a 4th armour that was better obviously than all the others without any drawbacks. I was like "well WTF would I choose the other ones when they have this one? :bulb:" I guess that's what I get for not paying.
