Hey thanks there seremtan as it has been too long since I visited this topic and the MC world
I really enjoyed you link to the clay soldier mod
I'll be spending some time looking into other MC mods (be that briefly at first, then....). Spent sometime exploring you tube/minecraft.... Gawd these people are nuts (in a nice kind of way of course).
I really wasn't surprised to find (so many really of) the Star Ship Enterprise here
i see some people are building long thin bridges that go nowhere

why not just d/l an adventure map from somewhere?
the 'adventure mode' notch is talking about doesn't sound that big a deal tbh. looks like if you don't enjoy mc already it won't make much difference to that

I enjoy the survival aspect of the game which is why I tend to play SP right now.

yeah @ 127 blocks
also, the terrain gets way more interesting out west of the spawn on the q3w server:
and by west i mean 5-10km west

I'm getting back into it again, I've had a server up pretty much since the game came out that my pops and I have been building in. I converted my single player game to SMP and we've been building in it since. My single player compound was so medieval compared to our newer builds
I'm only running a few Mods within Bukkit
-Tele ++
-MyWarp
-Backup < Highly recommend for automated backups
-Minecart Mania
We have a few huge builds that turned out pretty cool.
--Wharf side hotel, with minecart roller coaster and water slide
--Huge underground mines with working minecart railways to deliver mined materials to areas we are constructing
--Biodome
-- Gian castlet with huge open levels for ? deadly flaming arrow walkup at both front and rear entrances.
--Ship that contains a hull filled with all of our above ground mined items, we used minecart mania's cart elevator system to get the items onboard
--Lighthouse

How do you set the map ceiling?

You can't change the map height (currently). The highest you can build is 127, and then I think you can put things like torches or half blocks at 128.
Notch has talked about 1.8 (or maybe later) making it customizable (though mods), but it sounds like it'll really wreak havoc on servers if you change it too much.

Weird looking stuff. I wonder if notch has changed the way terrain generates much since release? It seems like lately, the cave networks are just fucking endless. I guess it depends on the map's random seed and if you walk far enough you could probably stumble across anything...

up to a point. the maps could do with being a) smaller (4x earth's surface? who needs that?) and b) more structured, i.e. seas, continents, mountainous areas, tundra etc that's more 'to scale', not to mention a sensible biome arrangement (cold in north, warm in south etc)
