Now you're sounding like the Randroid in my new icon. Hardly persuasive, but I feel you.

Well I'm no PS wonk, but his icon seems more defined, and on this average if sub-par laptop screen it looks better. Though the subtlety of your icon has it's pluses.

Depends if you want the black lines to stick out on the edges, namely the hat. Lots of contrast to the forum matte IMO. Meh, your icon, buddy ;)

I prefer the contrast, but I don't know if it's overkill on a proper CRT.

Thats called JPEG compression fuck tard :olo: Even thought you made agif, you still converted it from a jpeg :olo:

Either way, the reason mine looks a bit different is because I made it from scratch. I can show you the 624x624 res version I made of the icon if you like? :olo:

Wasn't that much work at all, if you look at the mega high res one, its just basic vectors really:

Pro tip, you just need animation to the already spiffy one ya got.

Give that some thought. Theres plenty here who can make it great.

Your contemplated one, is shit.

honest opinion, value that

Not sure animating the accretion disc around a singularity would be the easiest thing in the world, given file size limitations.

Last attempt was less than 300k.

Mind you, I aint gonna post anything less than special. If I try hard. Im busy, so that likely wont happen.

Pro tip to the kids, 11 frames is plenty and still under size requirement.

Good luck on your quest MQ.

interesting, appreciate all the help everyone is offering and as of late, you as well ForM.

I wouldn't mind eyeing some possible animated updates of this icon should anyone else want to give it a shot.

For those of you who don't know, the pic used in my icon was pulled from the TV series Justice League Unlimited. The character in question, The Question, is portrayed somewhat differently here than in the original comic.

Here's a episode where he plays a more active role.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rshIbcEP_1M&NR

Synopsis: Supergirl is on the rag and she's having wild dreams and waking up in cold sweats. She suspects there's something more to these dreams and asks Green Arrow to investigate, The Question interrupts their conversation and involves himself. The three of them spend the rest of the episode unravelling this mystery.

I know it's asking a lot, but does anyone want to take a crack at animating my accretion disc? Wouldn't mind a flash of light or two as matter approaches the singularity (in reality x-rays and gamma rays, but we can make exceptions for our purposes here), or not if it would look like crap.

Sounds like a fair bit of work, so I'll understand if no one bites.

There are some nice video animations at this link that might help to visualize it.

This .mov matches the still in my icon.

The image from which my icon was based off of is years old and still pulled for public press releases when they need black hole imagery.

Spent the good part of an hour to make a bogus example. I'll try again later when I have more time but the best way to make the disc rotating is by handpainting a perfect circle several times and then distorting it. Doing it by hand in perspective is a bitch. The ejection isn't too hard.
