It's worth it, fuck him. Besides I doubt there'll be true gridlock with the dems controlling both houses because Bush probably won't veto the majority of their spending bills and won't strongly oppose their push for increasing protectionism. Whereas two houses held by different parties will likely have at it on issues they might otherwise agree on just for the hell of it, less will get done, and we'll all be better off.

With a Republican majority in the Senate, they will still be able to effectively block investigations into the Executive's actions, as well as be able to block any sort of impeachment hearings.

This is what I'm most interested in, since gridlock was bound to happen either way. Whether or not these things actually happen is still a matter of conjecture, but at least the pieces will be in place to make it possible if both houses are taken.

webb is ahead, but by a margin small enough to entitle Allen to an automatic recount. and that seat will break the tie in the senate (so expect court battles)

Attorney General: Marc Dann (D) - I actually voted for the republican here, but both are decent candidates.

US Senate: Brown (D) :icon14:
US Rep: Betty Sutton (D) - The republican here was actually a really good candidate. He was a 2 time mayor in a very democratic town and really turned things around. Brought the city out of debt and revitalized the town. He also crossed the isle and worked bi-partisan w/ the democrats.

Things are looking decent here. Thank the sweet NRA gods that Mark Kennedy didn't end up in the Senate . Although Michelle Bachmann took the house, and she's an Ann Coulter-ish bitch.
Dems won out here, but we kept our republican governer. Oh well, he's not the worst I've ever seen...

BTW, run-off voting passed here. Anyone have experience with it? It is worth celebrating about?

I voted for it, but it won by such a landslide that I wondered if there was something about it I didn't know.
I would figure that conservatives would oppose it, but maybe they stand to benefit from it, too, by receiving votes from libertarians..

So in Virginia, Allen has clear grounds to call a recount, and in Montana, Burns is only losing by 0.7% or something (is that grounds for recount in Montana?).

The Dems will have to win both of these seats in order to take control of the Senate. Will it happen? I'm trying not to let my cynicism win over here because it's hard to believe.

PIERRE, S.D. - A woman who died two months ago won a county commissioner's race in Jerauld County on Tuesday.

Democrat Marie Steichen, of Woonsocket, got 100 votes, defeating incumbent Republican Merlin Feistner, of Woonsocket, who had 64 votes.

Jerauld County Auditor Cindy Peterson said she believes the county board will have to meet to determine whether the Steichen zombie is intelligent enough to perform its duties. Peterson said she'll check with the state's attorney to be sure that's that a zombie is eligible to serve.

The proposal to mandate parental notification before abortions in California did NOT pass, fyi.

Cheney and Rummy have been joined at the hip since Gerald Ford - who they orchestrated a major power grab against back in the day - and it's doubtful Cheney wouldn't attempt to keep him around...at the very least to clean his shotguns before and after he shoots someone in the face.
