Ivee got the Vista Business Disc burned, but lacking enthusiasm to try it out, mainly because the gaming performance hit.

Vista (Ultimate) owns imo. I've never been this impressed with an OS from MS before.
(I scored 5 on the system rating and Aero and everything else I've tried so far runs smooth as silk.)
Edit: I have yet to try any games. From what I've read, I'm sure that will dampen my enthusiasm a bit.

have you tried playing any legally-purchased HD or Bluray and found that you couldn't because vista didn't like your cable or the colour of your mouse or some dumb shit?

apparently so. why would that be a shocker? doesn't xp run the 360 hd-dvd drive perfectly fine with good playback etc.?

nope. there's no codec for hd dvd playback in xp. you can read the disk, but not play HD DVD video.

343? I think the admins in my building run that. But i get the feeling that theyd rather be on 10.4. 5 is still far from perfect, and i dont think it ever will be.

yep, thought so. you can't play hd dvd, only read the disk and see the files. it will install it from windows update.

hmmm that could be since there is no proper driver out for the thing... but if you get one of those 'official' drives for burning they can playback, seems this dude here has done it

drivers aren't the issue. drivers in vista are now sent via update and you can find them on the net for xp. there's no HD DVD codec at the mo, that's the issue.

Same here. Haven't installed it yet, though. It's going on my desktop, not my macbook. No way I'm wasting my install on that piece of shit.
I went ahead and installed it last night. Running real smooth so far.

I didn't even know there was a 64 bit XP version. Would I notice any performance increase going to that OS with my AMD 64?

I ran the 64 bit release candidate for a little while. I didn't test it extensively but didn't really notice much difference from the 32 bit version. I'm sure you wouldn't unless you are running 64 bit apps or games. BTW, running an athlon 64 3400+.
edit: The vista business that I'm currently running is 32 bit only. With an option to upgrade to Ultimate for $139.
edit2: DOH!! XP. Ran that too, same results.

ah Vistas turning out to be not my sort of system. I think ill flipside my way back to XP. 10.4 seems to be more reliable these days too.
Maybe in a few months, when both systems are more stable.

If you already have XP ligit edition, how much does it cost to upgrade?
