yea, probably bs, but this was funny:
Dear Mr. Chiang,

On behalf of the Graduate School of Virginia Tech, I am pleased to inform you that based upon the recommendation of the Information Technology Faculty, we can offer you admission for the Master of Information Technology for Fall Semester 2007. Congratualations!

blah, blah, blah.

Sincerely,

Karen P. DePauw, PhD.
Vice Provost for Graduate Studies
and Dean of the Graduate School

BTW, apparently the police were the ones who made the decision not to lockdown the school. They showed up, investigated, and determined it was an isolated incident, and that the killer had fled the scene from the first incident.

They're saying they still aren't sure if the two shootings were connected.

I think the last time a deranged philosophy student killed someone
on a campus was back in the 30's. Paroled after a couple years in prison (Austria).

This event did kick up an old memory for me...back in 1999, a white supermascist super freak gunned down a Korean grad student on the Bloomington (IN) campus, just a block or two from my hovel. I heard the shots that morning, though I didn't know exactly what it was until later.

faux news
"The Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday night that authorities are investigating whether the gunman was a 24-year-old Chinese man who arrived in the U.S. last year on a student visa issued in Shanghai. Police believe three bomb threats on the campus last week may have been attempts by the man to test the campus' security response, the newspaper reported."
that is completely fucked up if true.

Nobody can seen to get the story straight, the radio station i listened to yesterday on the way home from work said they locked the school down after the first shooting and re-opened when they found no weapons and more shooting occured immediately after... then all the sudden the guys were discussing about how they should've locked down the school... the kill count hit every number between 1 and 38 before stopping at 32 (I think official # is 33). It's ridiculous really.
Watch they'll "uncover evidence" that blames the Chinese military for sending this kid to do this and we'll have a war in China... and Vietnam cuz we forgot to finish it.

No kidding.

The police are understandably trying to cover their asses on this one I think. It sounds like they blew it.
