Being art students, everyone else had been tasteful and restrained in their presentations, but I thought "that's not what powerpoint is about - it's about clashing backgrounds, comic sans, pointless graphs, pie charts, transitions and horrible clip art" and that's what I gave them.tnf wrote:Truth.+JuggerNaut+ wrote: those that don't keep it simple, have nothing interesting to say.
Nothing irritates me more than students who give presentations in my classes with powerpoint and think their presentation is somehow deserving of a higher grade because they went to the trouble of adding all sorts of transitions, etc.
Problem is there is a teacher in my department who gives her kids extra credit for that kind of stuff...because you know, that is what a good science education is about...powerpoint effects.
At first it was pretty uncomfortable because they thought it was just genuinely quite bad, then one guy had a little laugh and people started to realise it was a piss-take. By the time I brought in the flying crossroads art I had them all laughing and clapping. Easily the best presentation or talk I've ever done.

this is actually an ecologically sound frame of mind, as backwards as it sounds.Dukester wrote:it was a pig
in texas you can shoot as many feral hogs as you want all year long
that one was feral too
who cares how big it was
shoot it
kill it
Feral animals are more destructive to native habitat than any other white man-introduced implement in history.
