I'm not a console person and i probably never will be, but in my opinion the things should be designed to take a virtual beating. You shouldn't count on the avarage user's carefulness with delicate machinery when you're designing a gaming system...
EDIT: Also Odium, the nintento was a very sturdy bastard... you could toss that thing around all you liked and it would still work. I have friends that still have their original nintendo. As a matter of fact, i don't know anyone who still has a nintendo that actually bought a new one because the old one gave up. Bad example.

It sounds a lot to me like some have you have zero clue about how to use a system like that. Its no secret that its built by [LOL RACISM] on $1 an hour wages who cant even see, but there are still rules you need to follow.

I don't claim to be perfect, but theres a reason my 360 is fine. Its because I treat it with respect, respect I would treat anything I've spent a few hundred quid on.
Just seems some of you with loads of issues think you can just do anything with it, and while you could with older systems like the PS1/2/xbox, you just cant with the 360 because we KNOW its not built that good.
So honestly, before some of you fucktards start screaming about how your 6th 360 only lasted 2 weeks, think about what YOU do to it, not just MS's shoddy workmanship.
On, and btw, a few... I'll call them "friends" but i use that loosly with these people... A few "friends" sent back 360's for repair for getting red lights. Not knowing that you can get a red light for just about anything on the system, for example, try turning your 360 on with no video cable. Why do you think MS are taking that feature out of future revisions? Its because morons see it, shit themself, and throw it in a box, not even thinking about what it could mean.

Cart based, no moving parts. You enver saw any issues with them back in the day, in fact I dont know anybody that had one of the old cart systems that had a problem... Maybe we should all go back to carts and HDD storage

How many of you do that? COme on, seriously. Back in the day, if I lost on Mario world you can bet your ass the machine/pad would get a piece of my mind.
Thing is, I was young, I never paid for it did I. I had no respect for it.
Seems a lot of you hicks dont have resepct for anything, so why should I expect any more respect for a piece of plastic that mommy probably bought you any way?
Exactly: when you were young. The average age of the poster here has got to be something like 28. Jesus fuck, we aren't imbeciles here. You seem to be the only one here lacking common sense.

My predominant memory when thinking about the NES box is blowing into the cartridges to get them to work.
Then again, that's mostly an issue with the cartridge itself and the care (or lack thereof) owners put into it.
That being said, Nintendo as a company is notorious for its ultra sturdy hardware compared to competitors.
yes, its so bad. My Xbox takes such a beating. It sits out in the open air and propped up off of any flat surfaces so that any air holes are not covered. Its big ass brick a cord length away out in the open as well. I rarely play multiple games in one sitting; especially on this last box upon which I had only played Dirt for at least the entire last week of its life. The only other thing to grace its wonderful laser was a few DVDs.
So got my gift card for Circuit city after sending my 3rd xbox back to their extended warranty center (bought before MS extended warranties as I mentioned.) I already have a HDD for it and wireless and cables so I was just going to get a core system and use the extra money on the card for a game. They give me their last core system and i notice the box is a bit beat up and it has two round stickers on the seal (like one had been put on over top of a previously broken one). Asked if they were selling me a refurb or return and they were adamant that they were not because there is apparently a no resell policy on them or something. Took it home and set it down and didn't open it for about a week. When I did, big surpise, the thing was repackaged...all the instruction manuals were already out, etc. etc. etc. I took it back and bitched out the manager there and managed to get the premium system for $300 instead of $349 for the hassle. So now I have an extra HDD and HDMI out. In the end, their fuck-up and the hassle worked out for the better for me. Hopefully *knock on wood* this one will be the one that lasts more than a year. heh.
My 360's DVD player is acting up, I think. Every once in a while when I'm playing GoW - and it only happens in Gears so far - I'll get a disc read error and have to open/close the tray and restart the game. 3 times so far, and I know it's a symptom of the 360 bricking for some, so I'm getting angray...

Mine started with that kind of stuff before dying completely.
