Re: New wave of metal?
i was referring to the first band... didn't touch the rest of this thread. Seemed like it went on and on so i ignored the angst filled discussion.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:they sound nothing like pantera, so no.Dr_Watson wrote:all these bands always end up sounding like pantera clones.
but the fist link struck me that they were some sort of band where their whole idea it to try and sound like pantera. Sorry to offend your metal sensibilities.
Re: New wave of metal?
oh look, a thread dedicated to find out which band is "heavier" and "harder".
i still think that most of the mentioned bands are a waste of time and aim at a puberty-driven need to be different.

The new album Watershed is 'available' now, and so far it doesn't hold a candle to Ghost Reveries or Blackwater Park. It may grow on me, but it seems to be missing something that their better albums have. The violin/chello sections seem a bit too on their own and don't gel well with the rest of the stylistic changes.mrd wrote:That new Opeth song doesn't look too promising...

We're not competing so much as trying to validate what we listen to. There seems to be the camp who likes the older, droning, flat demonic growl, never-change-a-riff, classic death metal and the camp who don't necessarily hate the old stuff but prefers the newer deathcore/deathmetal because its so much more dynamic on every front. This would be the reason I stopped posting music here. I don't need to validate my musical tastes. I don't need you guys to confirm my metal fan status. But it would certainly be nice if I could find some band that you guys enjoy.
What's interesting is that you talk about metal by numbers as if today's bands are somehow lesser than the old guys. When I listen to Deicide all I hear is the same unintelligible droning growl thats been buried under the same simple riffs and boring drums they use in every song. Does it sound demonic and brutal? Of course it does but thats not the only thing I'm looking for.

Not bad though, since while it's not something I'd sit down and listen to I'd rather hear that than most of the generic screamo stuff out there...at least they can play...

Yes you dense fuck. I didnt say i HATED pantera. I said i felt they were WEAK SOUNDING compaired to some of the heavier shit now a days.

PS Phil is a douchebag.
Re: New wave of metal?
I had an argument with a friend once about Pantera, and the older stuff from Korn, and Limp Bizkit. I disagree that Pantera is weak because Driven and Trendkill were both very heavy albums, but overall I do think that Pantera isn't the heavy metal behemoth they used to be. However, when I look back Korn and Bizkit's first cds were no where near as heavy as I remember them. Not that there is anything wrong with it. I just think that both my personal taste and mainstream metal has gotten a lot heavier over the years.
Re: New wave of metal?
speaking of behemoth...those guys kick ass for filthy euros...
