BTW...Mars isn't "red". It's rust colour. So any thoughts of it being something as radiant in colour as a typical Ferrari paintjob is misplaced.

an obvious reason to the lack of image quality is that they would rather not release them until they had time to process them themselves... once an image passes mustard it's worthless enough to release to the public.

that's sweet. our orbiting spy satellite captured our robot in flight. Good thing that works, so we'll be able to know if geoffs are landing to start a robodeathmatch.

I'm still surprised at the landing... They pretty much were exactly where they were trying to go, on only like 1/4 degree tilt (the tolerance was 16)

Pretty cool how the arm works as well, not so much digging but scraping away at the soil as it's impossible for it to break solid ice.

I'm a bit surprised there isn't more to this mission though, it's something like a 90 day plan and possibly an extension, but I'm sure I'm not seeing the entire picture.`

So we can see the tiny Phoenix lander in a planet as big as Mars, but we cant see any of the Apollo landings on the moon.
