Mass Effect is definately worth it. It's one of the best games released in recent years.

In my humble opinion.

I guess I should really give it a go. I'm up for a new RPG, and the other half has been moaning I havent played it yet (She bought it me for crimbo).

Mass Effect was boring for me. The weapons felt flimsy and unsatisfying (and the combat itself wasn't exciting) while the vehicle driving sucked and the conversations were long, drawn out snore-fests that didn't really change what happened in the game to a large extent. I played it as both a nice, friendly character and a fucking asshole and I still played the same game.

The art direction was really good and the game had this "bigness" to it that I thought was cool, but it seemed to be a game that didn't know what it wanted to be and focused WAY TOO FUCKING MUCH on the depth of field effect.

I just hit the level cap :(

Level 20 is far to fucking easy to get, what were they thinking...? I've had to use the console to downgrade my level so I can gain XP again and get the other perks... What the hell kind of stupid ass idea was that...
The intention is that you reach level 20 towards the end game, and that you can't get everything maxed in one playthrough, and that you have to play it again with a different type of character; as it was in the first games, I'll give Bethesda some kudos here.

I'm with gky on that one. So many intergalactic whiners, so little time for a rather clumsy dating sim. It was kind of alright but I've played much better games -including KoTOR

They implied that mass effect would stop cockslapping players around the face with the big moral decisions. They lied

As for Mass Effect, I felt it was just another Bioware game with the same damn story they keep on recycling.
As a role-playing game, it stunk to high heaven.

I love the game so far. The level 20 cap does suck a bit (or a lot), but the game itself has a lot keeping me interested.
Still, I can see how its going to be hit or miss for people - I can see how it might really turn a lot of people away, especially RPG purist types. But the storyline is good, side quests are pretty well fleshed out, you can spend hours fucking around on side quests and finding random shit, blah blah blah.

If you hated oblivion, you won't like this. But I've got no regrets, and this is the first 360 game I've bought since...oblivion I think. Or thereabouts...(gamefly is what I normally use)

I'm finding Fallout lacking in stuff to do in a given area.... the major locations like Megaton seem a lot smaller than the town in oblivion. Also the city areas are dissapointingly cramped and linear... would have liked a bunch of wide open city blocks to explore but there's mile-high rubble to all sides :(

I actually like that. It seems like there's some actual level design that went into designing the world instead of having a bunch of random buildings strewn about. Everything you can explore seems to be unique and have a purpose unlike oblivion.

Even though the main story is pretty weak, If you're gay and into Fallout lore there's all kinds of cool shit to discover. I found a factory full of Ghoulified Chinese soldiers hiding out from before the war. Checking out the vaults that aren't part of the main story is fun too. Keep in mind that the primary function of the vaults are for social/scientific experiments rather than keeping people safe from nuclear holocaust.
