Journalist? lol, It's not exactly like he was doing any Woodward & Bernstein style investigative reporting here.

All I'm saying is that, if BBT & gang made an agreement with this Jian dude and his producer beforehand, that he would go on the show if they would just treat them like any other band and not talk about his acting career, and then they agreed to it so they could get him on the show, then how is it an example of journalistic integrity to turn around and do the opposite, using the introduction to inform people that <gasp!> Billy Bob Thorton has won an Oscar and been in movies?

I'm making an assumption that this agreement was actually made, because the Jian guy alluded to it a little in the clip.

It's not like the radio station doesn't benefit from interviewing BBT's band on the air. They wanted him on, and they agreed to his requests, because agreeing to them would not interfere with what they wanted out of his appearance. If they didn't want to accede to his requests, then they didn't have to have him on the show.

Assuming there was an agreement, then one of two things happened: Either Jian totally disregarded it so he could practice some "journalism" on this guy and get some "real answers" about BBT, or there was a misunderstanding somewhere about what they wanted.

If it was just a misunderstanding (and I tend to think it was), then BBT behaved fairly reasonably to the guy he probably thought had been completely disingenuous to him. It's not like he went stark raving mad on the guy, which is how everybody seems to be portraying the episode. He just tried to ignore the guy's questions (after all, he was giving the show what they wanted, but they had reneged on what he asked for in return), and after being pressed on the issue, it looks like he went off-topic to make a point.

Everybody's acting like he killed some babies on live radio or something. What's the big deal? And why are people perceiving it as some kind of attack on journalism?

In talking to any other musical guest I am 100% positive Jian would give the listener context for who the band is. The fact that BBT is an actor/screen writer, etc. is a part of said context. If he purposefully avoided the mention it would be disengenuous from a reporting point of view.

So in mentioning BBT's background he is, in fact, treating him like any other guest. To do otherwise would be silly and would only be because the "actor" didn't want him to do it.
