Just think 'Better than the last two' and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
It doesn't start REALLY getting good until about the last third of the movie.

I watched it and thought it was ok. The dialogue sucked balls and the only believeable character was Palpatine...who overacted to get the "hey I'm manipulating people" as obvious as possible but he did a decent job. Mace Windo and General Grievous were a fuckin joke compared to what they were in the Clone Wars series....a big let down. And that fagg0t Anakin couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag if you set him on fire (which Lucas did to great effect on the lava planet). But....in the end...I'd watch this movie again.
I guess the reason I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have is because - as the movie progressed - all I could think about is how much George Lucas has lost his mind.
I felt pity on the actors to know that during filming there were no sets at all. For some reason Lucas thinks entirely digital is the way to go. I mean FFS...a fucking CG Luke Skywalker baby? WTF? Even the shadows of real life characters were CG. Did the shadows have to be so perfect they erased the real ones and spent time putting in CG shadows? Lucas could have used real elements - and it would have been cheaper and looked better - but he decided to make everything CG.
I'm sure the animators at ILM don't mind...but it shows that Lucas is getting weirder and weirder with each passing project.
Lucas...you went out with a bang...but you've gone over the edge of insanity "movie making" wise.
[edit] One thing I wanted to say: The audio design was fucking awesome and watching this movie in a theatre with my seat shaking as a huge star destroyer flies overhead is a great feeling. Nice job Ben Burtt.

I thought the light saber duels were - for the most part - pretty cool. The battle between Yoda and the Emperor was intense. General Grievous looked cool swinging those mulitple light sabers but he kept running away like a fuckin pussy...the exact opposite of his character in the Clone Wars series.
The biggest let down, however, was the fact that all of the Jedi were wiped out fairly easily. Jedis are supposed to be so much better than any other warrior on any battlefield...yet several of them were killed before they could defend themselves. Shouldn't they have sensed this before it happened? Yoda did...how come nobody else? And the way that the emperor killed that one Jedi by simply walking up to him and sticking him was pathetic.
I feel that Lucas had to cut back on the Jedi battles (and do some weird editing cuts) to ensure the movie didn't run 3 hours...but with the LOTR movies being 3 hours Lucas could have elaborated on the fall of the Jedi...which was the turning point in this whole fucking story (ep 1 - 6)....and still made it acceptable to viewing audiences.
And Anakin...when Jedi were supposed to be wise....was a fuckin brain dead idiot. Having his judgement clouded by the Dark Side or not...he should have at least on one occasion been able to think about what he was doing. It seems that dumb kid that couldn't act we saw in episode one grew up to be the dumb kid that couldn't act in ep 2 and 3. At least Lucas was consistent.
While the movie was ok and was a good way to end the series...it did nothing to show that the venerable Jedi were indeed deserving of the respect they garnered in the Republic. They seemed to be cannon fodder and just another body on the battlefield.
What a bunch of fags.

That one Jedi Palpatine totally punked was Kit Fisto and I TOTALLY agree with you. In the clone wars cartoon he kicks some major ass. Ultimately they should have given complete control to Gendy Tarkotsky (sp?) and let him run with it.

Went to the mall 2x to see it today, tried to see the 12:20 show - sold out. Tried to see the 4:40 show, sold out. Looked at tickets for the 5:30 show, sold out. Looked at all the smelly freaks in line to fit into a packet theatre and figured I can wait a couple more days.

yeah, I agree that Anakin was pretty brain dead. He basically turned into the emperor's lap dog.

I know that the Star Wars movies aren't supposed to be top-notch cinema in terms of acting, but why can a guy like Lucas not cast a better actor for Anakin? Or am I missing some quality of Hayden Christensen or whatever his name is that everyone else sees? Is his horrid acting actually intentional - meaning, is what I see as bad acting his trying to convey some character trait...

He did that in the original star wars, Return of the Jedi or sumit. It wasnt new.

The noobish screen wipes are to keep it in sync with the old movies, watch them again, and you'll notice the wipes.

Lucas' dialogue is utter shit though, everyone has trouble with it.
"I wish that I could just wish....."
"We live in the real world, I'm a senator and you're a jedi"
I mean come on.

Lucas is a really shitty director. You can tell from the dialogue in Episode IV - see how sir Alec Guinnes and Harrison Ford cringe when they have to deliver some of their lines. Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi is waay better because Lucas had the decency to hire proffessional directors for those.
Then he decided to direct Episode I - III by himself, and whoa what a fucking crapfest we got.

More to the point, he got Kasdan and that other guy to rewrite the dialogue for Empire, so that it didn't suck. If you look at the bonus material disk on the DVD, you get to hear some of the original dialogue, and it's just gibberish.
"I like it when you wear girl's clothing, you should do that all the time..." ffs

Yea, in Return of the Jedi, when Chewbacca swings down on top of an AT-ST to capture it he makes the same sound. So I guess it was sort of an homage type of thing.
Just found that out last night.

Saw this film today, it was terrible. It took me about 20 minutes to realise I was watching some hardcore nerd shit that I could never get into. Yoda is a prick, everything he said made me want to kill the person next to me.
But, I've got a better story than the whole of the film, the whole of both trilogies, in fact:
I didn't think anyone was in the seat in front of me, and I was on the end row by an aisle, so I wrapped my leg around and rested it on the arm rest on the seat in front.. I had it there for the entire film. When the credits rolled, a little girl got up from the seat, rubbing her arm with obvious elbow cramp from not being able to use the arm rest. I can't answer why her parents didn't ask me to move my leg, or why she didn't make it known she was there. All I can say is that she was clearly experiencing pain, and it was my fault.
That was the only part about the film I enjoyed.
