bicycle - to helmet or not to?

right - but that goes to show that the argument is more complex - other factors must be taken into account, such as relative risks, etc.

and there is a bit of debate around that issue, from what i can gather.

Yeah but that's my main point. On a bike, you travel at faster speeds than on foot because you are using a vehicle. So if you're using a vehicle it's a good idea to have some sort of protection. I'm not saying it's neccessry but concidering everything it can't hurt so it can only help. You could wear a helmet to walk to work if you wanted to and again I'm guessing it could only help, excpet people will think you are mentaly retarded which may impede your social life.

That link you posted shows a good bit of evidence that wearing one is not much or no help at all. I'd still err on the side of caution, though.
