yeah

i assume we're all running the same version (1.7.3)

google suggests glitchy internet (no, in my case) or glitchy minecraft.net (not sure - i log in fine), or possibly just server down

lol... ran out of disk space. 12GB taken up just from the map rendering. Easy to fix tho.

12GB
it's occurring to me now that these issues only started when i went exploring :paranoid: given that each map is supposed to be 4x the earth's surface i didn't even go that far....

The way the map output works is there's 7 or so layers of tiles for zooming in. When you have maximum zoomed in there's a ton of tiles.

I've turned off the mapping for a bit so we can see how things run now... should be stable i imagine.

but the map hasn't updated at all since you first posted it...

actually it would be pretty cool if you could update it <3

(or am i missing something here?)

where's the nether end of the portal at the end of your epic monorail? is there even one?

there is. Look at the map. Once you hit the end of the rail, head towards the torches that show the large shaft to bedrock. At the stairs going down to shaft, turn around and head straight away from the stairs.

yeah i can see *that* portal (the one near the shaft) on the google map. i meant: where's the portal *in the nether* that leads to that portal?

edit: no worries - i found it

how the hell did you find the portal in the nether? The whole reason the rail was started was because i got lost in the nether and figured it'd be easier to just run back to spawn.

easy peasy - i got the coords of the above world destination portal and the coords of the start portal in the above world from the google map, divided the x/z difference by 8, then hacked a path through the nether in that general direction until i saw your smelted stone pillar, which marks the start of the long straight path (which i lit up with torches btw) to nether portal #2

you could always make your railway from nether portal #1 to #2 - it's a bit of a walk

also, it appears the first nether portal (the one linked to in the basement of your cube house) now re-emerges in the top floor of my red tower, on account of me building my own portal up there because i was tired of walking all the way to the portal you made

according to the mc wiki article, a nether portal linked to two over world portals will go to one or the other depending on some shit about which side of the portal you enter, or from left or right, or something. derp

It's such a terrible idea to have that. They'll launch the game, it will be rife with bugs as every update is, but they won't get fixed for ages because Notch will be partying in Vegas. This guy is on vacation all the damn time, no wonder all the mods are better than anything he implements.

even the game's art is sub-standard. every time i see someone playing with the default tex pack i wonder how they can stand it, it's so hideous

been working on a bigass slime farm. I know I'm in slime spawning chunks yet no slimes spawn.

Are they disabled? I thought they still spawned even on peaceful?

I've been off and on.

That was a bug? That sucks! I want stick pistons damnit :(

On another note, I just installed a mod that lets the renderer use GLSL for some neat shader effects.

I've got world curvature, cell shading, SSAO, and even waving wheat going on.

If I had the right textures I could also have normal/specular mapped blocks too.

Check it out - http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/120 ... -and-more/

the cel shading looks like ass

i've tried a hi-res text pack but didn't like it, though i suppose some anisotropic filtering would probably improve it. then again, too much realism doesn't sit well with the mc aesthetic imho

by itself the cel shading doesn't look very good but I've got it with the xaiwaker texture pack (zelda inspired textures) and it works really well with it imo.
