mjrpes, any chance you could set the server to something not peaceful, add a portal to a map with not peaceful settings, or come on and spawn some slimeballs for me please?

So many contraptions to build yet no sticky pistons :(

speaking of which, there's now a Nether rail system:

Broman portal ---> my mansion portal ----> near spawn area portal

also, once more seconding the '2nd linked map' option. while a rollercoaster ride thru hell while dodging fireballs would no doubt be utterly high-larious, i don't want my man hours fucked up in the process

Current I'm running notch vanilla server, so can't do a second world with mobs. Only option is to enable mobs for the current world.

I vote survival definitely. I play more when it's survival.

With the lack of monsters, the only thing left to do is build and explore. I think the server would be better suited as a creative mode one since the only thing survival's bringing is the requirement of picks and incredible amounts of rage when falling in to lava while trying to grab some in a bucket.... lol

tbh the 1.8 creative mode looks pretty sweet, and would make collaboration on projects simpler in MP; hostile mobs would add nothing to MP, unless we were planning to team up for an epic adventure into the wilderness, which doesn't seem likely at this point

so i vote creative

(also, to echo silicone's point: mining is getting a little dull...)

I'd rather stick with survival mode... to me, part of the fun of building stuff and looking at others' creations is thinking about how much time was invested in gathering resources... though I suppose my viewpoint is a bit different as I don't play for long stretches anymore and I don't mind poking away at something for weeks or months until it's done. MC has turned into something of a late-night, cathartic exercise for me :p

on that same note, we're not building nearly as large as we would because gathering resources blows :P

I'm still working on my 4.5k block rail

That's 5.2k cobblestone (4.5k line + 2 blocks every 12 spaces)

94 gold for powered rails (6 gold per 8 rails per 35 spaces)

1,641 iron (6 iron per 16 rails at 35 rails per stretch before a powered rail is placed)

2,156 redstone (one redstone per 8 powered rails + one per redstone torch (two redstone torches per powered rail (an extra one for symmetry)))

and

563 blocks of wood (8 sticks per block at 4500 rails to make)

I know it's in the name, but I want to build stuff, not mine it. XD

Well, we could always team up and build stuff. I don't mind mining stuff for other peoples' projects. I have 40 iron blocks sitting in a chest...

We just started using the XcraftGate mod a few weeks ago. It's 2 mods in one... One to allow for gate creation between any 2 points including another world. The other world control like time weather, mobs play mode etc for each world individually.

http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/admn-t ... 000.19828/

This gave me a way to host a world for working and a world for being creative and cheating on one server and you can pass back and forth at any time.

Our original world where we cheat and either mine material or just use commands to spawn it, warp and teleport around, etc. Then when we feel like working hard we drop off out inventory at the gate house warp over to the "no cheat" world and pick up our mined and crafted inventory and get to work and try to survive against the mobs.

I like the server in vanilla mode. I always somehow manage to crash the server or make it super unstable if a mod's installed.

Hell, seremtan and I caused the server to become super unstable just through exploring past the limits of the harddrive space set aside for saving the world data.

I wonder if the stability has to do with the resources. I believe the Q3W server is running in a Virtual Machine, I had some funky issues when running virtual with only 2 people playing. I moved it over to a physical box and it's been smooth and stable since...
