I beat you to it. I don't think there's anything here to analyze. Lars von Trier has made several films that had nothing to say and no point. Like Uwe Boll...he makes films because he can get away with making shit.

I can only comment on Antichrist where LVT is concerned, but it was at least beautifully shot and well acted. Anything Uwe Boll has ever done on the other hand has been absolute fucking shite in every way conceivable.

Gave The COOK The THIEF his WIFE & her LOVER another viewing, excellent stuff. Always something new to spot with this film. The thief is such a wanker, one of the most visceral evil roles in cinema and achieved without needless gratuitous violence to make its point, it's all in the acting.

Also watched My Own Private Idaho for the first time, have to say I couldn't really get into it, it all seemed a bit hollow. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood.

Daybreakers = 3/10 - This movie is stupid on so many levels it's not even funny. Do not watch this movie as you'll only feel disappointed.

Law Abiding Citizen = 8/10 - A very entertaining film and well worth watching. Lots of people complained about the ending but if the audience stopped and thought about it for more than 3 seconds (and got over their cheerleading of the killing) they'd understand why it ended the way it did.

Dead Snow - 5/10 I will admit that I laughed and that the movie is good, ridiculous zombie fun, but I expect more from my zombie movies. The gratuitous guts (and I do mean guts, intestine snagged on a tree anyone?) were just goofy. I suppose if that's the point, then well played indeed, but some of it was just stupid.
I guess I saw the elements of a perfect zombie flick: College students, remote location, booze, and not just zombies, but fuggin' NAZI ZOMBIES, and somehow they manged to fuck it up. Meh, it was worth the rental.




Spoiler alert: The scene where the chick wakes up and the zombies are pulling her guts out was fucking gruesome.

Best scene was where the slut fucks the fat guy while he's in the middle of taking a dump.

Honestly thinking back on it, I can't remember what bothered me about it at the time. It wasn't that they were Nazis I think it was how they relented when they got their gold back.

A Serious Man.

Pretty fucking interesting. I just watched it and the more I thought about it the more the small parts of the movie pieced together. Now it's like every small thing and every thing said in the movie was interrelated some way, bad ass. The Coens did this too with Burn After Reading but it wasn't as intriguing a topic as the ideas presented in A Serious Man.

I put it on again.

The Book Of Eli = 5/10 - Beautifully shot, good editing, good acting and nice combat scenes. There was a good twist on the book itself when Gary Oldman finally sees it and a really good twist/revelation on Denzel Washington's character at the end. But overall I found this movie slightly boring. And the ending with the chick walking away sucked.

I've read several reviews that try to say that "the substance of the story is far more powerful then I could ever have expected. A film about faith and believing in one's self. Even amidst such despair, one can rise and accomplish anything. In a world slowly becoming apocalyptic itself, this message is much welcomed." Whatever floats your boat I guess. I'm sure you'd have to be a religious person to get that vibe from the movie.

But I couldn't get past the fact that the movie was promoting the cyclic destruction that religion causes...considering that it was inferred that religion caused the apocalyptic conditions in the first place. I sorta felt like I was watching a heroin addict - unable to stop his addiction - jabbing himself with a needle while trying to tell me what he was doing was noble. In the end, my take from this movie was: religious people can't/won't learn from their mistakes and will convince themselves that preaching the word of God (specifically Christianity...which I'm assuming Mila Kunis' character was going to do at the end of the film) is necessary and those who do it are fighting the good fight...even if it divides people and causes wars that kills everyone and everything.

Wish Jim Carrey would return to this type of comedy instead of bullshit like The Number 23 and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which, granted had its merrits, but still).
