resident evil 4:afterlife 3d - 4/10
hyperkinetic action from milla jovovich and the usual cutouts that gets extra points for being the best entry in a terrible franchise since the first one - and loses a couple for having the same final reel as every other effects-driven trainwreck pws anderson has pooped out in the last half-decade or so.
piranha 3d - 4/10
enjoyed watching kelly brook on uk breakfast tv years ago, she's a lovely looking girl and those magnificent tits could take the edge of any comedown. there are a lot of lingering shots of her ample figure in this movie and a bit where she swims around in the nip. some other stuff happened, i don't know, something about a fish maybe. frankly it just got in the way.
neither of these really benefited from 3d, but i'd happily sit through either one again over avatar. it was impossible not to be reminded of it and make the comparison. technically avatar wins by a country mile, but by christ that movie was absolutely fucking puppy-killingly awful.

Predators 7/10
Decent, had very low expectations and it was surprisingly entertaining.

Watched a couple over the weekend.
Syriana, which was a decent enough movie, slightly ruined by the presence of Dr. Bashir from Deep Space Nine (whenever I see him in anything, no matter how good his performance, it always tears me out of the moment). I found myself not caring about a single one of the characters, so while the story was relatively interesting, I ended up not really giving a damn.
And Midnight Meat Train. Excellent Late Eighties / Early Nineties-style horror based on a Clive Barker short story. Vinnie Jones has rarely been more chilling. He fit the part perfectly.
Sure, as with all Barker-penned movies, it goes a bit doolally towards the end, but the journey there is very enjoyable. Some fantastically gruesome effects too.

Piranha 3D - Absolutely awful/10 - This movie makes me want to weep for the human race, but there were lots of bouncing boobies and great gore effects. So retarded your head will melt.
The A-Team = 7/10 - I'd been holding off on this movie for weeks because I thought it'd be dreadful but it was highly entertaining.
Jonah Hex = 2/10 - Mind-numbingly bad.
Centurion = 4/10 - Utterly predictable with some really bad acting.

Watched Red last night, didn't really know anything about it at first but have to say that after watching it, I'm glad I did. Total over the top hitting grenades back and people with a rifle like a baseball bat fun. Good flick.

A-team
Cool movie

pretty far fetched sometimes and I don't like when the villians start getting comical, but overall it was good. Think I'll watch it again.. the funny parts were definitely funny

Scott Pilgrim. It wasn't funny, it was poorly acted, the action scenes were boring, it made me feel old and i didn't understand it.

Scott Pilgrim 5/10
I heard good things about this and I think I wanted to like it but it's really not my kind of movie. I get that they're trying to do that comic book over-the-top kind of movie, but it ends up only being cool if you're a 16-year-old hipster wannabe. Kick Ass was also a comic book over-the-top movie except it was surprisingly awesome. Skip Scott Pilgrim, watch Kick Ass.
Slumdog Millionaire 8/10
Somebody told me this was supposed to be the feel good movie of the year. WTF? He was probably pulling my leg. Totally not what I was expecting, I thought this was supposed to be some Bollywood romantic comedy entirely with subtitles. There are bits of romance driving the main plot, but beyond that I found it to be really dark depiction of India's underworld full of poverty, gangs, violence, and exploitation of children and women.
