Scott Pilgram VS The World 8/10
And the winner...me! This film is hilarious. How did I miss this one for so long?

A dark comedy told in the Pulp Fiction unravelling of multiple storylines. A supermarket during Christmas isn't usually the most interesting of places, but for three groups of reckless friends, the intertwining threads kick off from this moment and results in a rave (it's a '90s movie), drug deal gone bad, a trip to Las Vegas, a stolen Ferrari, a very disturbing cop, some pissed off bouncers, a car chase and other trouble. Where Pulp Fiction is more disturbing, this is more comedy. Though perhaps a "lighter" version of Pulp Fiction, it does stand well on it's own and is worth a few good laughs.

I have the number for the costume/props HoD, it's gonna be huge. If i manage to get on it I can feed you info from the insideRyoki wrote:Yep. After reading what little info is out there on it i decided the chance is very slim indeed they will make this anywhere near good. There's that eternally sad looking cunt from Heroes, Brad Pitt who hasn't been all that good in his last few movies and the director is the dude who made Babylon 5, which was gash. Set expectations to low.Ferrao10 wrote: Á propros, just finished reading "World War Z" and had read about major company/s planning an adaption for the screen with big names attached to it. Inception - 7.5/10
Not nearly as confusing as I was lead to believe by others who had seen it before. They must just be stupid.
Was a pretty cool movie nonetheless.

Angel-a - 8/10
French black and white film, directed by Luc Besson (Fifth Element).

Andre is short on everything: stature [cough]DooMer[/cough], luck and immediately important, money which he owes a large sum to just about every gangster in Paris. Faced with little options he finds himself on the edge of a bridge overlooking a river only to watch a woman take the jump before him. He jumps in to find himself rescuing the extremely tall, beautiful and blond Angela who places herself in his debt much to his confusion, following him around the seedy parts of Paris.
It is to no surprise by the title that Angela is an angel sent to help Andre (It's a Wonderful Life - though much darker). Angela is hardly angelic, she chainsmokes and seems to fit well into Andre's dark world. Andre is really a nice guy but has been hanging out with the wrong types of people for so long he doesn't seem to remember this. Angela begins to help him make up his debts and helps him to realize the good person that he is and in doing so Andre realizes that the angel has problems of her own.
Movie is well filmed, hilarious and disturbing at times. The dialog is fantastic and witty. If you're watching this (and I recommend it), be prepared to read fast or have your finger hovering on the pause button, they speak fast in French and it may be hard reading all the subtitles.

Hobo with a Shotgun - Junk. Stopped watching after 10 mins. I get that they were going after teh trashy B movie thing (and casting Rutger Hauer that that dude from Lexx was absolutely perfect within this context) but the writing was truly awful. Not 'deliberately, intelligently awful', but
'didn't spend any time on the dialog and thought that constituted a mockery of b-grade' awful. Think Matrix 2 and 3.

A good, dark comedy with something more underneath it about a man who is a superhero. Not a superhero movie.

Hangover 2 - 7.5 / 10
Funny. Pretty much what you'd expect if you've seen the first one.
Ultraviolet - 2 / 10
lol this movie was terrible! 1 point for the visuals making some interesting use of overly saturated colors. Another point for Milla Jovovich in that hot leather outfit near the end of the movie.

Kung Fu Panda 2 - 6/10 just weak in plot and reason. one of the more obvious "cash in" sequels.
Re: The last movie you saw
rofl, expecting a deep plot in a children's movie.
I took my kids, was awesome. Much better than the first.

I watched the original, good movie! don't really know what to rate it, probably 7/10 but it's a good one to watch.

saw the new one too, didn't think it was all that great.
Re: The last movie you saw
i concur, though i'd rate it closer to 6.5/10 since it was exactly what i expected. would have liked a surprise in there somewhere.Silicone_Milk wrote:Hangover 2 - 7.5 / 10

V For Vendetta - 6 / 10
It was OK. Lost me a couple times with those crazy rants of his.
I kind of felt the movie fell short of successfully making the government out to be the 'bad guy' in the movie.
Dunno, I was kind of expecting more from it.

Burton's Alice in Wonderland.
what a snoozefest. it all felt very forced, with the whole Burton/Elfman song&dance. the novelty of the visuals wore off after 5 minutes. the end battle was anything but exciting.
and it fucking annoyed me that Depp got top bill while his entire role could be a) filled by any other person and b) had no real purpose in the movie. Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway carried the movie all the way.
also, victory dance was audibly cringeworthy.

I sure would be interested. If you can come up with some interesting stuff. It isn't really green lit anyway, is it?phantasmagoria wrote:I have the number for the costume/props HoD, it's gonna be huge. If i manage to get on it I can feed you info from the inside. "Hearts Of Darkness"
Interesting and entertaining Doc about the making of "Apocalypse Now". Not your Making-Of-Bullshit from these days. 7/10
"Heima"
Recordings of the band "Sigur Ros" touring through their country, Iceland. But more in a theatrical way than just raw concert-footage. I like their sound, many won't

"Silentium"
Austrian movie about child-abuse at catholic church, generell abuse of women at the "Salzburger Festspiele", murder in generell and two private eyes who'd better not have sticked their noses into all this mess.
Really, really funny and contains a good story with one or two semi-foreseeable twists. The humour might not translate too well to other cultures though. It's as black as only austrians can do it. 8.5/10
