Well, Media Player (and Windows itself) relies on a DVD decompressor which you install yourself (usually by installing another DVD player like PowerDVD).
You can try seeing if that other application crashes too. Also, try downloading 'Media Player Classic', as it has a DVD codec built-in.

the programmers... or how about the company?
Actually, usually when this is happening The codec's Are causing an error with the player, and yes, this will only happen with the late virsion's of Media player 9 and 10.
Simply because Microwank has a auth process on there codec's ( for what ever reason ) and this is known to cause instability.
anyway, Have fun.

Also Media Player Classic plays quicktime .movs, which is good because quicktime won't play them in fullscreen without paying for quicktime

Lol yeah, paying to use a single video format in the same way as the hudreds of other free formats out there.
Not to mention that the format in question, which quite good, certainly isn't superior to the free codecs.

WMP10 has next to nothing for codecs on it's own so K-lite (or another codec pack) is almost always needed before the player becomes half-assed functional. Good to hear it worked out.
