I simply hate ISP people

For a week or so now out 1mb connection has been quite slow, random intervals of it just grinding to a halt. I’ve checked all the usual things and have come to the conclusion that its my ISP's problem.

I was just trying to play a game of cs with my housemate on the net and we were getting very high pings and such.

So its 10:30pm and I thought I would give them a call.

Because its that time, there is no doubt just some foreign person getting shit pay who doesn't know anything about computers but oh well.

I once mentioned to him that my downloads would start really slow and eventually crawl up to about 70k/sec and would result in everyone in my house having to wait 30secs to load up Google. To which he replied "That’s faster than what you should be getting on 1mbit"

*i hang up*

You just know sometimes when you're on the phone to someone you just won't be able to get anywhere so I had to end it. Pretty much the same with NTL when im back home.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

dispite everyone bitching about them, i've had very few problems with ntl. Probably about 5hours downtime total in the past two years.

Back home in cambridge my NTL would go down on average about once a month. Each time telling me its my problem and i've probably got a virus. And i know its not me, as my whole street would be cut off too =\

BT openworld are by far the worst isp i've ever dealt with, for both home and work stuff. their capacity for incompetence is reliable.

a BT phone engineer once told me that when they set up the first adsl accounts they weren't expecting it to really take off, so they staffed the project with all the retards, time-wasters and human sloths that they couldn't fire from other departments.

been using ntl for a few months now with no probs*.

* have to reconnect about once a week, and the accounts department is staffed by extras from 'shaun of the dead' - but otherwise fine.

I know a bloke who was told to format his computer to sort out a problem with the actual phone line and his BT broadband connection.
He was told by BT support.

that's a fantastic observation mate :icon14:

don't take it personally if people old enough to pay for their own internet connections aren't falling over themselves to thank you for it.

I despise NTL, was with them for 2 years and went through so much shit it was unbelievable. I still have their cable modem coz their so lame they can't even arrange a collection date without making a mistake.

I have Rogers High Speed and their Digital cable.
RHS disconnects like 20-30 times a day and they say that they won't fix it because they don't see a problem.
One person told me that when it goes out that I should call them so they can see the problem.
But the thing is it'll only be out for a minute or two and it takes me 5 minutes just to get someone.

Anyways we're disconnecting both services and switching to Sympatico and Express VU.

rogers and bell have the most pathetic techsupport, you always get the runaround when there's a problem on their end.
I just switched to teksayy.com dsl no problems so far :)

Are you on DSL? If that happens over here it's usually to do with the fact that you're not synching with the exchange correctly so the connection keeps dropping. In order to fix it you have to decrease your download speed so it's stable.

I've always worked for ISP and it's true you will always come across retards on ISP service desks. You just have to realize that the average ISP helpdesker is just a guy like you, with an average computer knowledge and networking knowledge.

Those with more experience are on 2nd line or even doing networking monitoring or whatever.

My settings have always been the same. Never changed any settings that have to do with the download speed.
Just one day it went to shit. Just after they did some repairs on the roadway.
