No sound in some AVI files

Some video files (always seems to be AVIs) play so that the picture is perfect but there's no sound whatsoever.

So far I've tried uninstalling XVid and DivX and running the files without them in Media Player (and Winamp which I guess shares the codecs anyway) and I've recently installed some new sound card drivers, the problem was there before the driver change though, it's been there for a while but only happened with one file so I assumed it was corrupt but now I'm certain it's not.

Any ideas? Winner gets a kiss and/or my thanks

Get K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (includes Media Player Classic). Select "Playback Only" during the installation. Plays anything and everything.
