Hi guys. I'm trying to find the link to downlaod the Microsoft VM. When I type microsoft vm in google, I get the link to the file
msjavx86.exe, but when I try to install it, it says it is an upgrade or something and you need the original microsoft vm first.

This is for a freinds computer with XP. It is installed on mine but I dont know if I did it or it was done with the install.

How can I get the Microsoft Java VM?

It is most likely that your system already has the Microsoft Java VM on it if you are running any operating system other than Windows XP. If you are using Windows XP and your computers manufacturer did not preinstall the Microsoft Java VM, or you did not download the Microsoft Java VM from Windows Update or http://www.microsoft.com prior to July 10, your system may not have the Microsoft Java VM. To get the Microsoft Java VM, you will need to install the Microsoft Windows XP SP1 update.

Steps to install the Microsoft Virtual Machine:

1. Download the file using the link above and save it to your harddrive.
2. Once the file is on your harddrive, execute it and thus load the Virtual Machine.
3. As the file begins execution, answer Yes to the License Agreement question and then once complete, re-boot your PC.
4. Once the PC is re-booted you should be set to go.

Microsoft had to take down their virtual machine because of some legal issues. But you don't even have to use the Microsoft Java VM, you can use Sun Microsystem's version, and it seems to work just fine.

There are two ways to get Sun's Java VM: Automatic and Manual Download.

4. Read the license and click ACCEPT at the bottom.
5. Click the Download j2re... link on the download page.

6. Wait for the download to complete.

Do you mean sp1 update for IE6?

The link you provided is for the file

msjavx86.exe

Unless I am wrong, this is an update to the VM. You must have an orginal file of VM on your machine before you can install msjavx86

To get the Microsoft Java VM, you will need to install the Microsoft Windows XP SP1 update

open IE and do the following


click tools tab

select windows update

download all the updates required. By the way if you are still running Windows XP and dont have SP1 this is gonna take a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong while

Im not sure about the sp1 update. The computer in question has sp2 installed. I did install java from sun, but my freind wants to use yahoo chat and it keeps saying that it cant load because it doesnt have microsoft vm.

I downloaded java software for windows from sun but it didnt help. Does sun have java vm as well or is just plain old java the same thing?

when I saw your post thisis what I googled because you seem to suck at googling (no offence ) I cut and paste the first post from the source linked at the bottom.



I know nothing about Birtual Machine other than from what I used when I did Java programming in University 4 years ago and I havent used it since.
