Why did the PC version do so well? It was because of the amazing MP game which some how "got it right".

Why did the SP game suck? Because it was bollocks.

So yeah, i can see why they would make a new Wolf game thats mainly SP based with a shoddy half done MP. Woo.

Fucking hell, port it to the thing, this is bollocks... Whats next, Quake 5? Doom 17?

It's sad to say it, but it's looking like iD software's time has come. I see studios like Crytech become the new 'greats'.

End of an era :(

CryTech are underated. If they had just an ounce more skill, they could put polish on a game and make it REALLY awesome.

FarCry Instincts is amazing. The way the game plays and feels is fantastic, and the only problems with it, are problems that TBH were not in the PC version and were changed/dumbed down for the console port.

So if they really tried, I'm positive they could make a kick ass amazing game.

Epic are looking quite good as well, they know they have to stay ahead of the game, and they also know now that they cant JUST have ULTRA options. It needs to be HIGHLY tweakable. They also know that at the end of the day, they only care about what the community wants. Thats why so many changes get made sometimes. Maybe a few TOO MANY.

Maybe if Epic finishes Unreal Tourney 07, they will do the sam visual style with Unreal 3, and make it a return to pali. (They said they wouldn't make another, but come on, if they do, its gonna be the same setting as the first after the outcry).

So yeah, I think id have dropped the ball. Mostly because Since they got "lucky" with the release of Q3, they haven't really been thinking of how games PLAY, and just how they LOOK.

giving one platform the release first is no big deal at all - but if the pc version does turn out like a port from a console game then odium'll be right :(

I dont wanna start like a war or anything but id were never that good in the first place.

Quake was great..... but what was there really to compare it too..... not much.

Quake 2 was good.... but what was there really to compare it too.....

Quake 3 was good...... But Epic and shit were starting to come up now and so took a large audience away from quake 3 and installed it in what would probably be considered a better and bigger franchise now anyways.

id were all about the engines and shit and carmack was proclaimed this god like person...... but only because no-one else had tried

*of course other people have tried but FPS werent that big back then, now we have every tom dick and harry doin them.

I dont think that will be any big deal considering that xbox360 is more powerful than ANY currently archeture available for the PC and will be for quite a while.

I mean I remember when the original xbox came out.... it wasnt that bad a standard at the time.... it just sucks dick now.... but it can still throw some good effects around *halo 2 engine cutscenes are pretty if unplayable*

They used to be the guys leading the pack, making the new innovations and making it well.

since quake3, they've reused old concepts but added PPL.

For once I agree with you, infidel.

Quake 1 -> UT -> Quake 3 -> UT2004 -> ??? -> Profit!

That's the progression of games I've actually spent time on. Quake 1 because it was truly a revolution and the community was massive. UT because that was the logical progression (both in terms of technology and gameplay... UT still has the best CTF mode in any game EVER). Quake 3 not because of a huge community, but because the game is incredible. UT2004 because of community, support, and it's the logical progression from Q3's gameplay.

As for all the other 'significant' games:
Quake 2 I ignored. Largely because it was a single player game and the multiplayer was insignificant. A large proportion of people disagree with me on that one, but I maintain they were kidding themselves.

UT2003 I played for a while, it was good, but I quickly went back to Q3. Then UT2004 dropped and basically fixed the game. I've never seen a game developer pull that off sucesfully before. WP Epic.

Painkiller, fucking lol. What a joke of a game.

Half-Life had insignificant multiplayer, like Q2.

HL2's multiplayer again, isn't the focus. It works, but only like far cry's works (it's good for a laugh but you can't make a hobby out of it).

You guys act as if id software makes games just for YOU. They're a company out to make money. They're taking the necessary steps to stabilize and maximize their gain.

What's your point? That's their perspective. Our perspective is on playing games and enjoying them. The company we've followed closely for years because they fulfil that desire is turning away from doing so.
