Quake 4 CTF; What YOU Wanted...

I'm "interested" in hearing your ideas for something. So post what it is your idea of an ideal CTF mode is, functions, runes, settings etc, examples if possible.

Ok, what about powerups? Love um, hate um? Which ones and why? grapple? Off hand, onhand, not even there? :p

I prefer the q2ctf runes (disrupter, power amp, accelerator and autodoc) and an onhand grapple.

grappling should really be in htere. its just a part of CTF imo :)

Regen for denfesive uses, quad/haste for effensive uses.
Grapple in CTF sucks.

Ok, say, you know, just as a thought, I was willing to design and make all these rune models etc and over see a new project that resembles the CTF mode you would all want, would you be interested?

And what would you call said mod?

I did start doom 3 ctf but found it pretty pointless in the end because Doom 3 was never going to be played, and ROE had a ctf mode already.

Quake 4 has a ctf mode but it seems to just be your basic CTF, plus its gonna get played so its a better bet.

As for all my other stuff, yeah, i have some, but i've done/changed my work so much since then its pretty pointless to use any of it.

I'm trying to keep the polycount down but at the same time keeping it detailed. With the amount of shadows that can be drawn its best to keep it optimized and at the same detail as the rest of the game world, but i will push where i feel i can.

I dont want to use things like noShadows and NoSelfShadow unless really needed, as it really breaks away from the feel of the rest of the world.

Anyways, heres a quick shot of a remake of the base of the rune. I've kept it the same style, but with the little prongs that Q4 has. I think it suits Quake 4 this way :D

grapple sucks. but if you have to have it then it needs to be off-hand.

if you ask me TAs powerup system worked pretty fucking good. and i'd love to see the return of the kamikaze.

hehe /me remembers the power of the kami on vortex

I have to agree with TA style of power-ups, 1 of each per team. Kept the focus on the flags rather than the runes.

Grapple i'm not so good with - never played much q2 or cctf, I'm not convinced of its merits in ctf, but have an understandibly bias view (perhaps optional ?)

I'd like to see quick weapon switches and a fast pace akin to threewave :)

oh god yes. you just made my heart skip. scout was my favorite in TA; so much control and speed it blew my fucking mind.

now i seriously can't wait for q4. i've been wanting to play TA a lot lately but now it looks as if my thirst may finally be quinched (or however the heck you spell it).

What a bombshell that was. If Q4 CTF is somewhat modeled after TA, then I know I'm going to love it. The only thing I would add would be the fast weapon switching and the HUD elements from 3Wave.

This makes me really excited about the game.

I'm a fan of whoring the Double on defense with rocket, rail and lighting. Nearly unstoppable.

But Scout and ramp-jumping sounds fun as hell.

I agree, it would be nice to see some of the clans come back around.
3vL, DT, HM, and a few others were all good. There were some really good team players around then; it's a shame the mod didn't get more attention.
But hearing this about Q4 makes me hopeful for a few reasons. :)
