An odd sound problem

my old 4.1 died and I have been living off headphones for a few months.

Now i've got some new speakers, nothing too fancy, just a 2.1 system from creative (I-Trigue).

Games such as battlefield 2, Dawn of War, Quake etc sound great. But in doom 3 the environment sounds and such are good, but the weapon sounds are much quieter than usual.

Seeing as Q4 uses the same engine, i'm thinking this problem may persist with the game. So i'm wondering if there is anything i can do?

EAX and all that shizzle is just set to default settings, no environment settings or anything. Its just doom 3.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

David

Did you turn off 5.1 sound setting in Doom 3?

yeah sounds like you might still have your games and sound card set to 4.1 out :-). If not, is it abnormaly low? is it just in the game?

Doom 3 is set to stero speakers, EAX4.0 off. And ive formatted since ive had my old speakers.

But yes, its just in the game, just in doom3 that the weapon sounds are far too low.

Hmmm, I know that many people thought the stock weapons in D3 where already tame as it is. Just didn't give enough ooomph I think. There is the trent renzor pak of new sounds for the weapons and some monsters. Have you tried it? I thought it sounded a tad better than the default sounds, and I've kept it.

dzjepp, you're the man. Found a modpack which contained that "renzor" sound pak file and all is well now.

But thanks to both of you for replying :)
