Q4 Multiplayer keeps switching teams

Hello all again,
Sorry to ask so many questions. I currently have my ~ key as console.
However, everytime I bring down the console to change some settings in a team game. I end up switching back and forth to different teams.
Is this a bug? Thanks again for the help.
