problem with sound

I noticed that the sound in q4 SP and MP likes to stutter on me. Doom 3 never did this. I'm almost positive that there is some way to fix this through the console.

P4 2.4
1 gig ram
9600 xt
Sb live

I will try the onboard sound when I get home. Hopefully I am not alone
My brother has an identical system with no issues. (And it plays like silk)

Doom 3 had it's own sound system so a sound card wasn't needed. Is this the same with quake4? If so, try disabling the sound card? Maybe drivers for it?

lol, you still need a sound card. What it meant was that the 5.1 processing was done via the engine so there wasn't a huge hit with performance :p

My bad, I meant that you didn't need a high quality one. Acctually I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Yeah that one is on the mark. ;) Doom 3 worked perfectly well with on-board mobo sound actually, it all played well nice since the engine was processing it.

A soundcard will always give you more fps then when using an onboard sound chip. Fps may suffer from older soundcards, you can check by disabling the sound: if you get a nice fps increase it may be time to get a newer soundcard.

Fucking HDD's were running in PIO mode and not DMA. WTF? I think during the installer they might have switched over (since it took so long).

Everything's great now 8). Running smooth on a 9600 xt
